Update.
How heard from insurance. They have upped their offer to £6,000 on the advice of the assessor, so not accepting their first offer was definitely the right way to go.
I can still remove the mover, so am planning to do this in the next few days, along with the jacking system that's in place. Presumably I can sell this second hand on Ebay (Seem to be selling for around £250 - £300 for this model).
So it's now officially goodbye to the Hymer and I am very undecided about replacing it. It's finding decent secure storage locally that's the real problem, as if I did get another van, it would have to be another Hymer and German vans definitely seem to be a target for our travelling friends, so rock solid security would need to be the order of the day. This is hard to find where we live that's not miles away and consequently, inconvenient as well as expensive.
Still, I have been looking on the net at Hymers. I will really miss my caravan - so the head says don't bother to replace it, but the heart says "You know you want to!" If we do end up buying another, it won't be this side of Christmas unless a real bargain turns up that we just couldn't walk away from.
