Don't feel guilty about watching the telly. It's your break - do what you want to. We have a TV in our caravan on our seasonal pitch. I could count on the one hand how many times its been on as we do spend most of our time outside or in the awning (and I wouldn't have a TV in the awning). However if there was anything in particular we wanted to watch we would. But if we didn't get a signal I wouldnt care. It is very handy though or the mornings when we have our wee grandson as it stops him using the swing park at 7 in the morning and waking the site up.

We have TV/DVD in the van but find that more than often we have friends in and spend the evening playing games ie doms, cards or some other board game. We have watched a few DVDs when the weather has been absolutely shocking Never had TV when we tented, never missed it. The idea is to get away and have a relax, for us anyway.
Re Johnnie Boy, was the camp site near Inverness by chance Bunchrew ? Great site good Tv reception but not if you are close to one of the trees.
No we stayed at Cullodon Moor CC site and very nice it
was too.

Just came back, took a laptop and dvd, and hid the tv in the boot.Laptop but wouldn't play(forgot to download dvd codec before leaving!) so ended up getting the tv out. watched Dr Who and Xfactor so the kids were happy. In the end I think having some sort of screen on occasion will probably be the best thing, as someone said not having on display and needing to dig it out etc will be reason enough not to use it unless we really want to. I've told the kids they are allowed to buy 1 old dvd from a charity shop per trip, so that'll keep 'em busy!
We stayed on a CC site and they had a hardwired cable so perfect reception, had no idea they did that! First caravan trip was terrifying, this 2nd one was actually rather fun !
thanks I worked that bit out. We did actually get a signal via Ariel, but only got about 10 channels, hardwired we got hundreds.I was surprised how hard it is to make the caravan work, even turning the hob on you have to push and turn and hold for 5 seconds, then light, but still keep holding for a further 5 seconds. Then same with the heater but you have to stand on one leg and whistle dixie at the same time. They do not make it simple do they....
Our caravan is a screen-free zone other than smartphones for weather and days out info etc. we have a good stock of games and both kids said their favourite part of going away in the caravan is the hot chocolate and family games we have in the evening with them snuggled under their blankets. In the summer they're out playing till bedtime but when it's cold/dark that's what we do. When the kids have gone to bed dh reads and I do colouring-in. Never have time for that at home but a relaxing activity which helps switch off the work/normal life part of my brain.
------------- From tents to trailer tents to a tin tent to an air tent to trailer tent and back to tin tent!
We have a tv in the van - Usually only watch the news and weather. (Weather for deciding where to go during the day) At night - Most of the time we are doing some serious drinking in the awning with friends.
I remember, to my shame, years ago scoffing at the campers who used a tv. Not real campers, why do they bother. I suppose I was a camping snob. Over the years I've changed my tune dramatically and now understand that we are all different and as long as we dont harm or bother others we should do as we like.
What brought it home to me was one day casually mentioning to a work colleauge my surprise at the folk who never leave their caravans/tents choosing to spend all their time indoors watching the telly. I didnt get it. My colleague told me about her sister who had a disabled son who needed 24/7 care. She got 4 weeks per year respite and in those 4 weeks went to my colleagues caravan. My colleague told me sometimes she never even got out of her pyjamas whilst at the caravan - a luxury she never ever got at home.
Hi a TV in the caravan isn't for us as we have such busy lives that for us going away in our caravan is all about spending time together talking etc. However we are lucky enough to have a projector so at this time of year when the nights are dark we take that, hook it up to the laptop and project dvds onto a white sheet in the awning. We all get our pj's on and snuggle under blankets with a hot chocolate and the kids love watching their own cinema before bed!
If we took a TV I know it would end up being on all the time and not just for the length of a dvd.
