We don't belong to the CC any more. We now prefer adult only sites and find that there are enough in the campsite search here and on other camping websites to meet our needs. We actually left the CC because they have a proactive campaign to attract more families with children and started installing play areas. More young families are caravanning and its only right that the CC should try and attract a slice of that market but it meant that those of us who's children had grown, or worked in schools as is the case with us, no longer have the once peaceful and quiet sites us oldies were used to. Perhaps you should keep giving the CC a chance as they are rolling out more and more child friendly facilities and they really are excellent sites in every other respect. Just not for us any more.
I think there are good and bad with both C.C and C.C.C sites.
I have been a member of the C.C. for 30+ years apart from a break of a couple of years when we didn't have a caravan. We didn't bother with joining clubs for around the first 10 years of caravanning.
I also joined the C.C.C. for two years but generally preferred the C.C. as we thought they were better maintained and still do.
We also use many private sites, always have done and to be fair some of them are as good as C.C. sites in relation to maintenance and cleanliness and friendliness.
I think a lot can depend on what sites you visit with both clubs, it can also depend on wardens behaviour as on any site.
To be honest I have never really had a problem with most sites we have visited over the years, club or private.
We do our research and check reviews on a few forums but that can all be useless if you get crazy, noisy neighbours and weak wardens on any site.

Try the CC at Longleat. Great site with the kids.
We do our insurance through them and when we renewed this year we ended up getting 2 vouchers for a free night on site, so that more than paid for our membership fee.
Plus look at the reviews on the CC and if there is a review by some miserable old git moaning about kids, you know you've found the right site for you.
When we arrived at Littlehampton this year, a miserable old so and so was leaving and was at reception moaning about noise from kids....needless to say our kids had a great time, playing with other kids on site.

Want to see my membership cards for the 2 years i was with the CC?
If you are disputing my - only partial, tongue-in-cheek claims, i'd you were the one that hadnt seen many.
We tried CC&C and CC sites. Didn't like them. Found them sterile, regimented, unfriendly and clinical. Subsequently always used public (which you call private) sites and never paid as much as £26 per night.

To be honest not been a member of the CC since late 90s and we found them regimented, unfriendly with to many rules and strictness when our kids where young. Went to some CCC sites in the 90s and found them much better for the younger ones. I am a member of the CCC not the CC and i should really take a look at the CC if it as moved away from that stigma, which it was and still hangs around there neck today. As above we also use private sites as well. I think do your research and enjoy your time caravaning weather its CC, CCC, or private, and as for club membership ats a personal choice for each family.
As I said esarier, we mainly uses C&CC, but have used "private" sites as well, although not for a while in UK. The main thing I dislike is having to pay for the showers, with a coin in the slot especially. The last one we used was set out similar to some club sites, ie pitches lined around a road (regimented / like a car park?) and the owners had lots of notices, don't do this / do that etc. Still the notice on the back of the cubicle door gave you something to read while you were sat there!!!!

To be honest nowadays signs/notices are sometimes a requirement by the Health and Safety brigade.
We live in a blame someone else culture and sites have to follow the rules and also cover their a**e , although I agree some go overboard.
I stayed at a small quiet country site where it was tents only.
The owner was showing me around the site and when we came to the loo she pointed to a sign on top of the loo cistern which read " this water is not for drinking",.
It was a requirement from Health and Safety as the water came off the hill and was untreated but ok for flushing the loo. I have never been tempted to drink the water from the loo but maybe H&S employees do?
Just one example of jobs worth I have came across over the years.
The drinking water on site was filtered which surprisingly came from a tap
