I still get comments from friends "what do you see in caravaning" I don't really give a sh**e what other people say, but my reasons are numerous, so here are a couple to start.
We used to camp in tents for years, moved to a caravan about 4 years ago and love it. Where can you get a holiday for up to 6 people for less than £20.00 per night?
Discounted Insurance Quotes for UKCampsite.co.uk visitors! Up to 12.5% off!
Cheap accommodation for 3mnths in southern France at the campsites where I go. If I could afford to rent the mobile homes on those same campsites I would do that. Cost effectiveness of 1980s caravan, £400 off ebay & just done it's 5th season is unbeatable though.
Just think of all the places you can visit that dont break the bank, the fresh air, and the number times a year you can do it, all the weekends away you can have.
My wife and I have a fortnight each year in some hot clime being waited on hand and foot.
We use to then spend as much time as possible touring any where we fancied, but now alas in our twilight years we tend to seasonal caravan within 2hrs approx travel.
Next year we move on to another seasonal site somewhere else or go further a field and have two weeks at home two weeks at the van or even a month away.
Yes the freedom to do what you like and drink what beer you like not just local brew.(as in all inclusive hols)
Give me a good pint of bitter with plenty of body any day.
It has been incredible for me. When my eldest son was much younger, having autism meant that he struggled with strange environments and was prone to trying to escape from hotel rooms! Having our wonderful caravan for the past 6 years has meant that he had all his familiar things around him, it was just the scenery that was different each time! He loved it and still does thank goodness, because I wont be giving up caravanning any time soon!!
Wonderful family holidays at a fraction of the cost of hotels / holiday parks etc. Clean accommodation. Fabulous food & wine. Freedom to holiday wherever you want, whenever you want, and adventure!
Here we are in Flookburgb. About 45 mins from nome. Be meeting family for a nosh at the Brown Cow Dalton catching up on aches, pains, digestive problems, etc, etc well knowing that one thing never changes. Two things actually;
Beer cures everything, and we always end up at sisters house for coffee afterwards.
And when its time to go, I get up to play the piano. Or is it the other way round?? :)
Guess thats three things. Now what was the original question?
------------- Peripheral people don`t have as much excitement but they sure live longer
If the question was why do I camp? My answer would be:
I love sitting outside, watching nature, wine (or gin or coffee dependent on time of day) in hand
Freedom and flexibility to see different places
The opportunity for loads of short breaks
Peace and quiet ( I chose my sites carefully)
Can cost next to nothing
Why do I caravan? I can do all of the above more comfortably than I can in a tent. And also more likely to use all year round than if I just tented. I have a caravan and a tent and use both.
£500 caravan off ebay, & reasonable site fees means cheap holidays, which means we can afford more of them even though we are pensioners and can't afford hotels too often. Even self-catering can work out expensive. We like the outdoors anyway, but couldn't cope with a tent as we did when we were young. Freedom to go where and when we want, even on the spur of the moment. We tend to stay in Britain, but there are plenty of lovely places to visit, and there is usually a campsite nearby. Hotels and self-catering tend to book up very early in the best places.
Wonder how many pages this thread will turn into...???
Anyway for us it's....
We can just hook on a go*! No trawling the internet / travel agents looking for that so called 'perfect' holiday - and I bet you can only afford that ONCE a year!!!???
Our own beds - the way WE like / have them.
*(I), can't be bother with abroad ATM, having to go through the panic of packing case(s), all the stress (Annoyance) of airports, and then sitting next to someone in a tin can, for X amount of hours, that's afraid of flying, but MUST have THAT holiday! (As this happened on our honeymoon flight and pi$$ed me off big time)!
No wonder people say 'I need another holiday to recover from that one...'
