Our first year caravanning after going through the usual Tenting,Folding Camper, and now our caravan, wishing we had done it sooner.
Anyway, having a job done our house needing scaffolding, the scaffolders have caught the van piercing the outer skin even though we had moved the van out of the way with their instruction. We had to tell them about the damage as they didn't own up to it.
It's about a inch and half rip in the Aluminium and some red paint left off scaffold pole,so he had to admit it or his mate had done it.
So told him we would get quotes showing the photos we had taken which have come back in the range from £800,£580 and £360.
Wife mentioned the first quote which was the £360 to him and he didn't like the sound of that so god knows what he's gonna say to the middle quote which is closer for me to get the caravan to and sounds to be a decent repair.I've had some say they can put a vent or a reflector or even another set of transfers to try and help the difference in the paint.
Why should i put up with a crap repair if it ain't my fault.
I got the feeling he was hoping to pay out of his pocket not his insurance if he as any.He made some example of a repair to his car wing which only cost him £100,so this repair to the van shouldn't be much more.He obviously hasn't a clue about the damp issues it could cause,Aluminium repair and paint matching.
Sorry for this topic to be so long but really wound up.
He should have liability insurance. Did you pay for him direct or was he doing the job for a builder you had doing a job for you? If so then builder is liable, I think. Get a written quote for a proper repair & present it to him. Be polite but firm & tell him to inform his insurer of your claim. Take photos of damage including position of caravan.

Thanks for the info folks.Yes we've got photos of scaffold and the position of caravan. Now we're gonna present him with the quote we think is ok.Fingers crossed.
If your caravan is insured, you need to report it to the insurance company even if you are not claiming. If you did claim, the insurance company then claim it off the builder and it should not affect your premiums.
The last thing you need is a cheap and nasty repair as thsi will be picked up when you trade in the caravan. Have you had a dealership quote on it yet?
I think you will this is no different from caravan being damaged by a any other third party, the process is to claim from your caravan insures providing them with the full details of builder and his public liability insurance.(Which he is required to have by law).
Your insurance company will deal with your claim and seek reimbursement of their cost and your excess unless of course the bulder's PL insurance company put their hands up first and recognises the claim (do not count on it)
Good news today after presenting him with our quote. He has paid the money quoted into bank.Thought we were going to get more hassle than we did.
Anyway, thanks for all the information you have gave us.
