I am thinking of buying a Kampa air awning, I've been up to the caravan to measure up and no matter where I will be positioning it it's going to pass over 1 or 2 windows.
Now I'm thinking I will have to protect them from rubbing so I'm thinking clingfilm but I remember hearing stories about clingfilm causing crazing on caravan windows.
Has anyone got any hard evidence, or point me to a link where this has actually happened, if so I will have to have a re-think
Don't put cling film on windows .
It would be better to just put a cotton sheet / pillow case over them . But lots of people have awning s that cross over windows or part of windows . Don't worry about it . It will be fine . Just wait and see . It may just cover a small edge or corner.

We used cling-film on the windows under our cover for 3 years and also had the brilliant idea of covering the front windows with cling-film while towing so that we could peel-off and have spotless windows on arrival. We now have crazed front windows due to the chemical reaction between the windows and the film - just looks like shatter proof glass after impact.
Thanks jeff and nora, I just wondered if it was another internet myth, I'll have to wait for it to arrive and see how it fits, then see what I can lash up
We have a 3/4 sized porch awning which sits half way across a window. With rear pads and pole kit there is very little if any movement so no issues and no damage to the window.

We have an Isabella Magnum porch awning that passes over the bedroom window on one side, it seems very stable with little or no movement and hasn't marked our window at all.

I have used pipe lagging on some of my awnings to cover the poles..and,if you have a trampoline they can be used to cover the springs to stop getting your legs scratched

I put cling film on my side window when i put the porch awning up for winter (seasonal pitch) and it didnt do any harm to the window at all.
You were lucky with the particular cling film you used.
The damage they can do is not likely to be evident for some time, typically many months, and as described is a rash of micro cracks ruining the window and being totally irreversible. Before doing this I advise you first check the cost of replacement windows; I am sure this will convince you it is a risk far from worth taking. Same with using window cleaners, only use those sold for use on acrylic as some domestic glass window cleaners can have the same micro cracking outcome several months later.
