Hi we have a seasonal pitch for next year, we do intend on taking the caravan off and toring for a couple of weeks in the summer. The question I have is, will a normal touring awning be ok to use, or do i need a seasonal awning.
The season is beginning of March until end of October.
Our site recommends that we don't leave the awning up during March. Having experienced the effects of snow in April, we now don't usually put our awning up until the end of April/beginning of May. Ours isn't a seasonal awning.
Lots of people just use the normal awnings opposed to seasonal ones,my caravan is on a windy site and the winds took about 5 awnings in one month, snow at easter the other year took us all by surprise, then the golf ball sized hail storm damaged a few. Make sure they are well pegged down with some form of strap, I use straps on the inside of mine around the front corners and middle leg,I've never lost one fingers crossed
I have just taken my awning down today as we are towing off site tomorrow (only time hubby was free to help me!)
Awning went up at the beginning of March - it was just a very cheap, basic porch awning but because my van is so small, it almost covered her completely like a full awning.
According to my weather station, we have had winds of 80mph over the time she has been on site and the awning stayed put. No storm straps on it but I did use plenty of rock pegs.
