The payment (majority of it) has landed in our bank account from the insurance company, following our van being broken into and trashed by the "you know who" low life in August, so our van is off to the salvage people next week, mover is up for sale and we are "vanless" for the first time in almost 11 years.

It feels strange somehow and I am still looking on the various websites to see if I can find a suitable Hymer to replace ours, but I am in two minds about whether to replace it. Current thinking is to give it the best part of a year to see how we go without it, then make a decision.   Wonder if I will last that long!

So it's goodbye for a while from this caravanner and many thanks for all the advice and help received on this forum from those in the know.   How long for is another story.

Commiserations Patches. I made a mistake in the past and bought a second hand Tabbert. Pikeys tried to steal it twice and I had to offload it. I lasted a year without a caravan and when we found that the only advantage of a gite holiday was being able to get there without towing a caravan. The cooking facilities were inferior and to be honest, it was less comfortable than the caravan. As for UK holidays, the cost of hiring a holiday cottage is ridiculous. I'm sure you will be back - just get something they won't want to nick like a Bailey!

Looking for a Hymer, if we are to replace it. It rather spoils you I'm afraid.

There are few that come up for sale in our price range and the layout we want - we are thinking a 2/3 berth would be best now that both kids are at Uni and we don't need to include them in our holiday plans. Looking at one on Ebay at the moment.

The main problem that's putting us off replacement is storage that is secure, not too far from home for a reasonable price.   It has to be a Hymer so it has to be really secure storage or our travelling friends will no doubt be back to trash any other van we buy.
