We've just decided to buy an older caravan (4 berth) to replace our ageing tent.
I've been searching and reading up regarding the laws on parking, but it's mostly about parking on a road.
Where I live we have parking that is off the main road and off the street. It runs directly behind all the houses. I've measured the caravan and unfortunately its too long just to park normally in one of the spaces however we have the equivalent of 3 spaces behind our house and I could park it horizontally across our garage and into one of the other spaces and park the car along side it - leaving one other space by our gate (probably not explained that well!)
Anyway - the question is, is it "legal" or ok to park your caravan on off road parking in this fashion? While it may (and probably will) annoy some people. . more concerned on legalities.
No definite answer from the info you have given. If the parking area is communal then it might depend on whether your caravan prevented a neighbour from using the space if they wanted to use that space, communal parking areas usually have some sort of written rules(enforceable or not)as to how they can be used.
The way forward here is to speak to other users of the parking area because legal or not, if you park in a way that might be considered inconsiderate you could have problems.

If it's not going to be parked there permanently, could you possible speak to the other people whose spaces you would be using/blocking and explain you want to bring your caravan back to clean it for a few days?
Keeping your neighbours informed and happy may well be the way forward!
We have a communal drive with garages, shared with 5 houses. When I bring my caravan down to clean/load, I tell my neighbours and one, who doesn't use their garage, allows me to park my car in their "space". It's all about being being polite and thinking of others.
The neighbours would be fine - get on well with them, but large number of houses around. To be fair - it's normally only us that parks in these spaces with the odd other person. Will possibly bring it down, stick a note in the windows pointing out when I'll move it and deal with any that complain badly.
