I must second freeatlast's comments. We have had a Specialised Covers one for 6 years now and never had a problem with it.
I do however think it has to be a breathable one and if at all possible tailored to fit your van, that seems to make a big difference and then it doesn't flap about in the wind. It's not too bad to fit and once it's on stays there thoughout the winter months. Easy to remove & fold back into it's bag for next time. All windows are covered with soft material that doesn't move before the cover goes on.
Each to their own but I will continue to use it.

------------- Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day,
Teach a man to fish and you can get rid of him for a whole weekend.

I doubt I will bother, I moved to a caravan to get away from packing unpacking etc. I just wont to relax without the hassle.
Hi blueexpo how's you?
Fine MrT, glad you finally came over.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?

Had to be done blueexpo, don't get me wrong loved the FC and still do, but hey look at the size of my beer fridge now lol.
I suppose each to their own with covers, I I face would be worried about them flapping about in the wind and denting the caravan next to you or even worse your own as I read in a thread.
------------- Up there for thinking, down there for dancing. 😎
If you vist any caravan storage yard you will see some with covers some without I would not have one myself ive seen the damage they course to the van and the unlucky van next to them flapping around in high winds the owner no where to be seen I thought caravans were designed to be able to cope with your great British weather
We had the same thoughts on getting a cover but we went to the caravan show and Bailey advised there was no need and also could invalidate warranty in some cases . Also the caravan is made for all weather and most dealers never cover so we have chosen not too.
Front cover when towing is great and we have one.
The black water lines are so easy to get off if you buy a can of greased lightning, you can dry polish with it too and it waxes and leaves the van like new ! Would defiantly say get a can of this.
Any trips booked yet ? We have Holland booked for 2016 already and hope to be back out come March ! Happy touring !
Not worth it unless you intend keeping your caravan for a long time.
We had one , only used it once . When we took it off the van seemed to have a dusty film over it . I thought it was like a mould . Not black though . Also inside seemed to feel damp . It was a breathable cover. This made me afraid to use it again. Then we changed the van and left it in there when we part exchanged it . So all in all a waste of money .
Yet the idea is appealing of keeping the van clean .
Hi glamcamping,, holland sounds nice :) were actually away this weekend. Its inly supposed to be -6 lol, that will be 1 degree colder than i did in the fc so im hoping it will be a lot warmer inside.

we used one last winter and it was spot on no problems at all, didn't put it on this summer as we use the caravan as much as we can now regretting it as the damage the hail stones caused in a freak storm might have been less
Here's my take on it, an older van yes its definitely worth using one. Newer vans I'm not convinced.
We used one every year on our old van. The one year we didn't was the year the seal on a rear light decided to fail leading to damp.
Now yes the damp would have developed anyway but over the warmer months the regular use would have meant we would have spotted it sooner. The cover would have prevented a whole winters damp getting in and wouldn't we have had such a massive repair job.
When we got our new van the cover didn't fit so we didn't use it.
The van is under warranty and fortunately a winters rain and a particularly bad week in Wales tested the seals to the fullest leading to the failure of a window seal and a damp repair. So whilst your van is under warranty test it to its fullest extent don't use a cover.
I also note from reading lots of posts the quality of paint doesn't seem as good on newer vans so there seems to be a higher risk of scratching.
If you are worried about black streaks I can really recommend these awning rail protectors
Currently we have them on only one side and the difference its very noticeable on that side of the van.
We use a front cover and have just used it (first time) on our trip to Spain and back. It protected the caravan well but the 3000+ miles has worn it considerably. The only real issue was the tie down under the tow bar which started to wear badly after the first 500 miles and was destroyed within 1000 miles (Replaced with strong bungy in a plastic tube which works really well. No stone damage or chips so I would say its don its job
I put on a similar post a while ago and im still a little un decided, I think it may be down to which make you have so a decent quality cover is probably a good idea where as a cheap cover may not be fit for purpose.
I think it would be really useful if responders were to state which brand they have experience of like some already have done
------------- its our imperfections that makes us perfect
Having done France, Portugal, Spain last summer, over a 9 week hol ... I'm definitely getting a front cover this summer ...
The final wash down before putting into storage took ages!
We do use a full cover for when it is in storage ... despite being an indoor store, there is quite a lot of dust from the concrete floor and movement of other vans in and out over the year. Means, when we set off it is as pristine as when we put it away.
It takes three minutes to put on or take off, and we leave it at the storage depot whilst we are on the road.
Works well for us.
Hope you're enjoying your'vanning' as much as we are!
