Many years ago we had a 1966 Sprite Musketeer that had a pull-down double bed, which we found very convenient. We could leave the bed made up, and at night all we needed to do was flick the catch and pull down the bed. It was very comfortable too.
When did this design stop being produced, and why? Or are there any still made?
We had a 1960 Sprite Alpine with this type of bed. It was a wonderful idea and so comfortable but did make for a very heavy van because it was solid wood with a sprung 4" mattress.

We had a '65 I think Musketeer towed with a '64 Hillman Minx. Must have been 50 years ago.
The bed formed a dinette by day, 3 person I think. The double seat cushion formed the bottom 2 feet of the bed so the mattress was only 4'6 high I guess.
Like you I think it was brilliant, because it was as comfy and good as a fixed bed but didn't use up half the van which was only 14 foot.
Sounds just like ours Navver. We had it in the late 1970s and for quite a while after, until that is it was stolen in around 1990. No trace was ever found, and I suspect it was scrapped for the aluminium. We had towed it all over southern England with our Mk2 Cortina. Also a 1966 model.
