My Award Transtar 2006 rear marker lights and one tail light is not working. The two front markers, tail light and number plate lights are all fine. I checked the bulbs and the fuses under the seating, again all fine, Anyone got any ideas of how to fix this.

Thanks

First check would be caravan plug & also car socket. Take plug & socket apart & check wiring, could be wet & corroded, so bad connections including earths.

I'd be very surprised if it's the plug it the socket as the o/s and n/s are working at the front etc. If you have a multimeter check when the caravan is plugged in to car with lights on if there's any voltage coming to the light fittings, check any connections you can see that maybe loose etc

Could be both front markers & no plate wired to one tail light & rear markers wired to other tail light. The only standard is wiring for rear lights/brake lights/indicators/foglight, the wiring for markers & no plate light can vary.

So quite possible one of the tail light cables has detached in plug or socket. What happens when you apply brakes? if lights are all over the place with indicators coming on suspect bad earth. Either way your first job is to check caravan plug/car socket wiring.

I would of thought that with the op van being a 2006 as said in his first post then it would have used brown and black separately and wired the lights correctly. But without seeing it then we don't know. My gut feeling is that it's possible dirty/corroded connections on the light fittings.

Remove the marker light lens and bulbs and clean the bulb contacts etc. with some Brasso and then apply a small spray of WD40. It worked for me when one of my rear marker lights failed to illuminate as over time there is a dull surface corrosion that forms which you have to remove.

Checked the contacts to the tail light and seem to be getting power, I will try another bulb and see if this does the trick, but for the top marker lights, no power getting to at all through the voltage meter on both sides, scratchy had time me thinks. Near side wire is Black and off side wire is Brown.
