I'm considering getting an external gas BBQ point fitted to our caravan. Just wondered what peoples experiences are of these and whether there are any issues anyone has found?
I'd have it done by our supplying dealer who have serviced the van from new, so wouldn't expect it to have a detrimental effect on the body/damp warranty - any experiences on what we should expect to pay? Appreciate that the best way to find to find out is to call the dealer... But they're not open at 9:30 at night so thought I'd ask here instead!
Our van is a dealer special and came with it fitted.Swift fit Bullfinch ones.We use ours a lot and if I bought a new van without one I would ask dealer to fit one before I took delivery. If dealer fits it will not affect your water ingress warranty.
They fit them at side of the van at the very front so a long pipe is not needed to be outside of an awning.

You still need a long pipe if you don't want to cook next to your awning? It's got to drop from side of van to floor then under awning then at least a couple of metres away from awning and back up to bbq?

I agree a long hose is needed, I have used ours and find it very handy. If you have a porch awning you could get away with a shorter one.
It all depends on the type and rating of the appliance but as a rule of thumb It is advised that the hose length from a BBQ point should not exceed 1.5m. This is to minimise any drop in pressure that may affect the performance of the appliance, and also minimise the risk of the hose being damaged.
BBQ point shouldn't be used inside an awning.
Hi,
we use our bullfinch point for our bbq, the instructions for the CADAC says hose should not be longer than 1.5m for optimum performance.
We however have a 5m long hose, this is so we can cook infront, behind and to the side of our awning/caravan. `The pressure drop is not noticeable, but the main thing to consider is risk of the hose being pulled/tripped over. I put our hose under the awning carpet so it is not a trip hazard and will not be pulled by our kids.
On the pressure drop front, it will not effect low rate but will reduce the total high flow amount of gas so when you have the bbq on full rate you may not get full flame, but that would depend on the gas consumpstion of your appliance. for reference we have a CADAC carry chef 2.
Thanks for the mixed thoughts/comments - we mainly use a porch awning so wouldn't need the very long hoses that some mention; certainly has an attraction however to be able to run everything off a single gas bottle and remove weight from the front locker. One to ponder some more!
You will find swift fit them at the very front of the side panel. We only use a porch awning and one meter hose is adequate, but with a full awning two meters would take you well away from the awning.
We had one on our Pennine folder so had the dealer fit one to our Adria when we got it. Would not be without it. Saves having to carry an extra bottle. We did need a longer pipe when using it with the awning on the Pennine, but we have an air awning for the van and the bbq point is outside the awning.

We also make good use of ours. A 2 metre hose is more than enough to clear our porch awning which is almost a full awning on our little van. It has to be pouring with rain for us to cook indoors rather than outside on the Cadac.
