Hi, help i'm confused now more than ever.
My van handbook says I need a 1025 awning but the book is promoting isabella.
The isabella website says my van also needs a 1025 and it says that my van 'A' measurement is 1032. A 1025 awning covers 986 - 1035.

I want a Dorema awning. Their website tells you to measure using a piece of string from the ground, up around the awning rail and back down to the ground again. This will give the measurement required. I have done this several times and the best I can get is 1020.

Dorema have a size 15 (1000-1025) or size 16 (1025-1050).
I have asked different dealers what I need as the book says 1025, so the smaller or the larger of the two.
Two dealers said the smaller two said the bigger and one dealer is calling Dorema tech support to find out.

I called Dorema myself and told him how I measured and I dont get to 1025. The assistant said I never would and he insisted I go for the bigger size (1025-1050) as you need to allow for the splay, but it doesnt say this on the website.

So confusing.
Can you help,
Thanks in advance
John
Van is Venus (Lunar) 580/6 2015

Hi john, mel,3kids! , seen that but thats on the 2016 model. The figures say in 2016 caravan is a tiny fraction shorter than my 2015 yet the awning is longer. Doesn't make sense. Think I will go for the longer one though given this information, cant believe that the van will be any shorter in length, I bought the van at the change of manufacturing year (Sept). Thank you

I'd get the bigger size.

I also agree to go with the bigger size as well as it allows for any uneven ground especially if the ground slopes away from the door. If you opt for the smaller size, in extreme circumstances the material may not stretch far enough to peg out.

The awning sizes that are given from the manufacturers are max and min so if you put an awning that is 986 to 1035 (as isabella state) on a caravan that has an awning rail size of 1035 the bottom skirt or mudwall, as some people call it, would not be touching the ground, but on a caravan that was 986 it would be either folded under or folded outwards depending where the peg down ties were so it is a better idea to get the larger sized awning

Hi John If you measured twice and got 1020 then you need a 1025 cm's they are allowing for pitch being unequal from front to back.

if you go for the next size you will not get the roof taunt enough and in a heavy rain storm get pooling on your roof which will stretch the roof and will cost virtualy a new awning to repair.
Been there done that.

looked at Doreema which I have used for years and years but too big for your needs.
Try Bradcot they do one 1030cm's also good awnings( made in UK not China) which is only 10cm's bigger than your measurement not 30 cm's

You can also down load from Bradcot erection tips and tentioning advice pegging ETC
.
Please buy a set of storm straps they are a must for your own peace of mind and pocket.Good luck the final choice is yours I hope you get many years out of your awning.

I would also get the bigger size. One came with our new (to us) van, and i think its too small. Its down as the 'right' size, but any ground deviations would near enough see it off the ground altogether. It was bought by the previous owners along with the van when new, from the dealers.

I have this advertised in the For Sale section if anyone is interested. And a bargain it is too - if its the size you need!

id go smaller we have just had an awnng that was the "right " size which we could never get tight (dorema) new awning ordered Isabella and went for a smaller one which is perfect even though it is meant to be too small.
also with our last van we used the same awning on that and the previous van and it fitted far better on the van that should have had a larger awning we were able to get it taut

Thank you everybody for your input. In the end I decided on a second hand Isabella 1025. On the Isabella website it says the A measurement for my van is 1032 and a 1025 awning required. My van is a late 2015. On the Isabella website for the 2016 van (yet the van hasn't changed) it says the A measurement is 1017 which is what I measured several times. So confusing, would have bought a Dorema 16 (1025-1050) yet now thinking that it would have been way too big.
Thanks again

Bruneval3 we were in the same position last year and only had a porch awning that came with the van when we bought it. After spending a couple of weekends looking round various places and getting totally confused we decided to have a look at Yorkshire Caravans at Bawtry they have a fantastic display of awnings, Issabella, Doreama, Bradcot and more. We decided to go for a Bradcot and the advice their staff gave us was spot on and our awning fits perfectly, had we listened to previous advice at another retailer we would have bought totally the wrong awning for our caravan and needs. I notice you are in south Yorkshire so maybe have a look there can highly recommend them.

Hi DebnPete,

Thanks for that advice, we were going to visit this weekend anyway, but that has made me feel a lot better.
