my wife and I are new to caravanning. We have just been to view a 2004 Eldiss xscape 534. The seller wants £5000 for it. It is in mint condition and comes with an Isabella ambassador awning plus lots of other things including a motor mover.
Just for own piece of mind before we separate with our hard earned cash, is this a good price for a caravan of its age and model? I have done a bit of google shopping but cant seem to find anything similar to compare it to.
Any advice for a newby would be greatly appreciated!
Its a private seller. Its a 4 berth fixed bed with an l shape living room. Just need to know if im in the right ball park with a 12 year old caravan for £5000
I`m asking more for mine which is a 2006 model (new in 2007), which has hardly been used so is `mint` (different model though) but it has been serviced annually and all the damp readings show no water ingress and the van is "dry".
If you can get that sort of assurance and its what you want then I`d give it serious thought. There are loads and loads of leaky sponges out there and its worth a little more for a good, dry van.
It's a private seller wanting dealer forecourt price but with no dealer warranty. It may look good but has it got a full service history of annual service & damp checks? Anybody can polish up a caravan that can still be riddled with damp.
I would just say make sure you really do want a L shape lounge. Our previous caravan had a L shape lounge which we thought would be a lot better than our first which has the parallel seating. After 3 times in the caravan we decided we didn't actually like it. The only thing we did lie was the front bed was bigger. We just found the L shape not as comfy as we thought it would be. Needless to say we have now got rid of that caravan and upgraded to a fixed bed

Thanks for all your help with this!
I don`t know where the break point is TBH, mine maxed out at 12% which is classed as `dry` so I would think 16% is OK. Couldn`t say what `normal` timber has a moisture content, but don`t imagine 16% would be a concern.
I would get a local caravan service engineer to give it a once over if I was you. Should only cost £150 or so and could save you regretting £5k on it. There are lots of mobile service engineers best to see if you can get a recommend
Is this caravan advertised with all the gear in front of it? Looks well, try and chip them down a bit.the isabella awning and annex is a nice extra. Looks like everything you need to set off on your 1st trip

Cheers
Thanks anyway.
The Isabella awning will be worth quite abit on its own and as much as £500. The motor mover adds on at £600 at least. If they are including all the bits and bobs like aquaroll and waste master then £5000 for the lot is not too bad. Is the servcie history up to daye showing an annual servcie doen every year.
Get a AWS technician to give it a check before handing over the money even if it costs you £70 for them to do the damp check.

Hi cheddar79, we bought an immaculate 2004 elddis crusader hurricane last July from a dealer for £5750. It came with a starter pack of a new vango airbeam awning, aquaroll, wastewater, hitch lock ,wheel clamp and a 12 month warranty. Serviced and damp check records going back to when it was new.Dealer also serviced it and put a new water filter in. It's been back to them once under the warranty for a new toilet flush pump.
I think we got a brilliant deal and have been lucky.
I think that £5000 for a 2004 caravan is about right especially with the extras that are included.
