Went to NEC yesterday, was good day out, got a couple of gadgets. But noticed a lot of caravans and motor homes, I think Swift ones but maybe others, that are putting end bedrooms in with bathroom in the middle across the van. Literally making the bathroom a thoroughfair, and probably trapping people in the bedroom and living room whilst you lock 3 doors to go to the loo (no pressure). Has anyone tried this layout - just wondering if its not as bad as it seems and works OK? I am just imagining embarrassment if forget to lock one of those doors whilst en-throned??
I suppose it depends on who exactly is occupying the van and their relationship to eachother. I can see that it may be a problem if two adult couples were sharing the caravan at the same time, but some families with young children are used to them following their parents everywhere around the home including to the toilet.
My two year old grandson would scream the place down if his mum tried to exclude him from the bathroom whilst she was using it, and has taken the view that its much safer to allow him to follow her for now rather than not being able to see what mischief he is upto alone whilst she is using the toilet.

No the ones I saw didn't have a side corridor type thing. Some had toilet at one side and shower at the other side with sink in the middle and the only doors were those leading to the bedroom at either side near the loo and shower (sink was against a wall in the centre which had bed end behind) and then a door in the middle leading to the lounge? the whole bathroom literally was across the mid section of the caravan. And as LlaniDavis explains is very boat like - they looked nice and kind of felt boat like. just thought it would be a whimsical question to ask everyone.
When we were looking for a newer caravan we saw one that was similar to what you have described although the caravan wasn't new but the doors from the living area and bedroom doubled up as doors to shut of the toilet area and the shower area hope that makes sense. If not what I mean is that 1 door say the bedroom door folded back and shut off the toilet area. Havent seen the vans stated in the post but wondering if could be the same idea
We saw that layout in October and it appeals to us. We are just two and have an end bathroom, fixed transverse bed at present. I go to bed at least two hours before OH and get up about an hour before him. We are both conscious of not making a noise and disturbing the other. Having the bathroom in the middle removes you just enough for the tv or radio not to be intrusive. It would also mean no squeezing past the bottom of the bed to get to the bathroom, both at night and during the day.

saw that at glasgow and thought that is just wrong even for a husband and wife, imagine hubby goes to throne in morning after a curry and 8 pints of real ale and wife had to go past, now any wife will have seen her husbands' anatomy on numerous occasions so no worries there but the smell, like walking past your oh in mid dump. I know I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy
Alan I didn't realise people used the caravan loo for number two's.
Personally for us we are seriously looking at this layout in the Coachman VIP 545 as our next new van.

I agree on that, no number 2's in the van, no matter where the bathroom is positioned.
Is this the Coachman with self levelling? We liked that idea but preferred the transverse bed with centre bathroom of the new layout Lunar Delta

I can assure you that plenty of folk do, including us. We like to stay at CLs/CSs which often have no loos, using the caravan one is preferable to the bushes, and a toilet tent brings back horrible memories of camping with my parents in the 60s.
I like the idea of a central washroom, so what about 2 doors in the caravan, are there any?
Ive seen vans with a loo on one side, with the shower on the other, and the bed at the end. Its a corridor, yes, but you could use either facility without 'blocking off'.
As for no 2's in the loo? Caravans are just too bloody expensive not to use every last inch of facility you are paying for. Otherwise you may as well save money and book into a B&B.
