OK, today we picked up the Lunar Clubman 475 2/ck..new to us but still 18 years old. Anyway, after moving the monumental amount of unnecessary tat we had in the old caravan into this one and sorting a couple of things I decided to check the tires. Bit odd, one at 30 and one at 48psi. And the spare (in the front locker tucked away in the right corner) was flat. Then followed a swear box filling 15 minutes trying to get the bloody tire out of the locker. Pumped it up to 48psi and waited to see if it went down...it didn't. OK. Then the struggle to get it back in the locker. Which didn't happen. It would not go in. So,its in the caravan itself and I'm buggered if I can get this thing in the front locker. I think its going to have to stay out and be moved in and out of the 'van as needed. Any suggestions? John

Our spare is what they call 'floor mounted'. In other words it sits on the floor inside one of the front bed boxes. There is a bolt fixed to the floor with a hand wound retainer to hold it in place.
As it's only a 2 berth it is a pain using up our valuable locker space but is easy to get to and doesn't increase nose weight too much.

Cugsy if you got it out it goes in reverse to that, it would only be flat on the bottom.
Most proberly never been used so past it's use by date in emergency regardless of how good the tread is.
If its been sat in the locker since new and flat for how long the tyre walls will be knackerd.
If I was you I would renew all three tyres to be on the safe side, sounds if last owner did not look after van so what else are you going to find.
My spare is mounted on nearside in front locker and have to remove right hand gas bottle to get out, move to centre of locker pull bottom of wheel towards me till roughly 60 degree angle then lift bottom of wheel over lip
and virtualy tilt to 45 degree angle to remove top out of locker while walking backwards and rest wheel on A frame cover. I will be 76 in weeks so no spring chicken.
Before you all insist that the thing is doomed, it has a list of paperwork for servicing and upgrades from day 1 when it rolled out of sunny Preston. Its been CRIS registered and has had 4 owners in its 18 years. The last service was 16 months ago. It was also used regularly and looked after.
The dealers salesman had it gas/water and electric checked despite it being cheap and having no warranty and no obligation to do anything. I checked all of the dates on the tyres and they have over 2 years left on the mounted ones and 18mths on the spare. No cracks or deterioration anywhere. Nowt new finding 2 tires with different pressures or a flat spare - the bloody car had a flat spare when I got it.
Its damp free and smells fine. Its got some needs which I will sort. Maybe, just maybe the wheel well in the front locker has shrunk or it had a smaller wheel. I don't know. But if I thought it needed new tires then I would be buying them and (no offence) but I don't need egg sucking lessons.
The wheel can stay inside and then get moved when we get to our sunny destination....

calm your jets friend, okay there is 2 years date wise and 18 months on the spare and it has been flat. £150 for 3 new boots versus a potential failure in the pouring rain?? you dont know how the tyres have been treated in the past. your call

We had no issues getting the stell spare wheel in and out of the front locker on our CK so not sure why you are having an issue?

I find this a bit rash if i'm honest. Unless you automatically swap the tyres on your next car everytime as well? As i would be more paranoid (which is what this comes over as) of having a blowout on the front of my motor than my caravan. Theres safety and safety. If these tyres look ok and are devoid of splits and gouges, are within date - and thats only a guide in itself, i would personally keep them on. Ok, ones been run a bit light, but theres no weight in a caravan, and they aren't thrashed about either.
With our spare wheel in the front locker, the nose weight was too heavy for our towball and so I bought an underslung wheel carrier (Alko) and it now sits nicely just behind the axle.
The modern Alko underslung carriers are far superior to the older ones that were prone to sticking and jamming.
The freed up space in the front locker is now a much more useful area.
Seems strange that the spare was difficult to get out and impossible to get back in the front locker.
Not telling the OP how to suck eggs or state the obvious but is the spare the same size wheel/tyre as the others?
Considering another poster with same van has no issues getting spare in and out of the locker

caravan tyres are not an item to be underestimated . if you had experienced the damage a blowout can do to a caravan underbody & wheel archs you would not chance tyres of unknown quality
