Hi, can anyone help, I have a Bailey senator twin axel. 10 years old. Bought it last year and tyre tread is fine but lots of cracks so need to get them replaced before using this year. Any ideas how to do this, I am in Northern Ireland. I don't fancy taking the van to a fitting centre as they are a bit small and I don't fancy trying to get it turned! I also am not sure how to jack a van up, and if I did I would be worried wheel nuts would be jammed as I don't think they have ever been removed.

Tried that, doesn't seem to be much. Kwik fit say they do but called them and they didn't seem interested. NI can be a bit backward sometimes!

Etyres appears to have a franchise in Ballymena, link, no idea how up to date this info is or how near that is to you as you have nothing filled in for your location on your profile.

Is there an ATS over there ?they did mine on site.
You can fit VAN tyres to it as there are four wheels.
Fitted them to mine.

If you take off the wheels yourself, hitch the van to the car then jack the van up at the jacking plates behind the wheel.Course you will need another car to take the wheels one by one to the fitter.Hitching the van to the car makes it more stable to work with.

Or park 'van on level ground unhitched, handbrake on. Loosen nuts on one side, jack up with bottle or trolley jack as described, place axle stands under axles, drop onto stands, remove 2 wheels, take to fitters, fit tyres including balancing, as you would with car tyres. Refit wheels then repeat for 'tother side.

If tyres are 165/80X13 then 4 car tyres should be of sufficient load rating for 'van, usually 83 load index which gives total of 1948kg which should be well over loaded weight of 'van.

Without history it would be as well to check if the current tyres are specified correctly. Hopefully, the spec will be in the handbook if you have it.

Otherwise google 'load index' which will throw up loads of sites with tables. Find the load index for your current tyre as per the sidewall and read off the max weight it will support. Muliply by 4 and the result should be at least 10% and preferably 20% greater than you vans MTPLM. If there isn't sufficient safety margin, select a higher load index.

Only trouble with doing that is, the van is very nose heavy and if it slips and the "A" frame lands on the deck you have no hope in hell lifting it by hand...been there done that.

Could you order online and get some delivered, then take a wheel (or 2) at a time to your local tyre fitter.

I have always took my wheels off and put the caravan on blocks, then took them to our local tyre fitters to fit and balance.

Etyres have also stopped in our area..
