We have heating in caravan but due out first time on Good Friday for a week. As it looks like it's going to be cold my hubby has bought a 500 watt mini radiator to help and leave on during night etc. Do you think this will be ok, won't trip the electric and be any good. Our caravan is an older swift with some kind of heater. We haven't used yet as in storage.

Is it an oil filled, or convector radiator??
We have an oil filled rad. Found it heats the van better than the blown heating, and you don't have the noise of the fan from the blown heating either.
You'll be surprised that you start to 'listen' to the fan through the night thus keeping you awake....

Yep we just use the electric Truma on low fan setting if cold enough
But oil filled rads are good aswell - just buy a decent one not a cheapy unbranded onefrom China if leaving on all night. We used to have a small delonghi for our old folding camper and that worked well - downside they are quite heavy

Bought a couple of smallish oil filled, and they both went back, not fit for purpose. Trouble was, they switched themselves off when they (not the air) reached a certain temp. It was not enough to maintain a reasonable caravan temp. We use a 2 kw convector, never use more than 750W and it has a thermostat. Brilliant. Its heated the van all winter for the last 4 years. Cost about £17. .

Hey guys I know this is an old post,we are on a seasonal pitch next year starting from 1st March so we will need heating what sort of wattage do I need to be looking for on an oil filled Radiator and do you leave them on low or thermostat when your not there ???
you turn them off and unplug the caravan when you are not away in the caravan, why waste electric and risk the small chance of a fire if there was a failure?
