I have the chance to purchase an 03 Sterling Europer 460 MIRO 985kg MPTLM 1193kg
In have a Luguna 1.5 dci max braked limit 1300kg. I assume this ok for 85%. Not planning to go far live in Norfolk so not many hills ect, favorite site 15 miles away.
Is it worth a go
Sorry if age old question, but dont want to waste my money and their time, many thanks

Asabove good site to give a good ideof what you can and can't tow safe
I put your details in and it came back as
78%
The Renault Laguna III - 1.5 dCi and the Sterling Europa 460 of a laden weight of 1280 kg is an excellent combination for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
But please check for yourself as Kelper said.

Cheers

Your max braked towing limit is the weight you can tow strength wise with the car. In other words it will pull away on a hill and go along. It does not say how stable it will be or how fast it will go.

For instance, a land rover may have a max towing limit of 3000kg but a weight of only 2000kg. It will tow 3000kg but may have to go no more than 30mph to be safe. Wouldn't be very good when you're on your way to Cornwall.

The 85% you mention is a guideline for stability when towing. The weight of the caravan should be no more than 85% of the unladen or kerb weight of the car. If the car is heavier than the van it should control it rather than the van controlling the car which is dangerous.

As for speed, a diesel is usually pretty good for towing so it will probably be OK.

Thankyou for you comment.I do not disagree with what you are saying regarding the weight and ability of the towing car. for that reason we are staying local. We may look to spread our wings in the future.

I tow with a Laguna III 2.0 diesel with a van at 93%.
So far so good.

Many thanks for your reply. Have you got parking sensors? Detachable or fixed towbar (swan neck) I have now purchased the caravan, now going for it. and looking forward to it. I have checked towcarinfo again, the Sterling Europa 460 on there is newer and heaver at 78%. MPG might not be that good but as said before staying local.

I do have the parking sensors and I have a detachable tow bar but I know the swan neck fixed does not interfere with the sensors
