Hi! We have just bought our first caravan. Second hand and there are no instruction booklets for anything. I am puzzled as to how the heating works. Its a carver heater and has a dial with flame levels on and an ignition and we have a gas test certificate so must work but I cant seem to get it to light, not sure what I'm doing wrong. also a panel on the wall with fan options, 2 electric options, fan only and two gas options. I can get this to start up and feel it through the vents but its cold. Any advice or tips would be appreciated Thanks
do you turn the heat knob to a heat setting, push the knob in then press the igniter until you see the pilot flame then after a few seconds release the heat knob? thats how most simple gas heaters work? took ages to purge the gas pipe on my caravan so had to try lighting it for a few minutes before it fired.

Ok maybe I haven't held it down long enough, but what's the fan panel for on the wall then and how does this coincide with the heater knob on the actual heater???
if the heating is like the Truma heating, the fan runs to circulate the hot air from the heat exchnager that the gas burner heats. it is not essential to run the fan.

Ah ok sure, it's a lunar clubman 1994 and its a carver heater
Put that and your location in your profile, it all helps.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Did the person you got it from not give you a basic run through? Even without gas, they should at least go through the motions - which is best to video as its done.
Just a check for you make sure your car 12s grey plug is wired to suit a pre 1997 caravan as wiring changed for post 97 vans .incorrect wiring could cause problems with fridge & battery charging systems
We had a 1999 Bailey Ranger with panel on the wall which sounds similar.
You set the temperature you want on this panel. Anti clockwise makes it colder.
Press the button and there should be some green LED lights which cycles through the options.
Gas slow fan
Elec slow fan
Gas fast fan
Elec fast fan
Fan only.
Off
I think that's what they sail as it was a while ago.
We only used electric which needs a hook up cable connected.
There was a fuse spur switch (a switch with a small fuse in it) alongside either in n a bed box or near the heater. This switches on the electric power to the heater so should be on.
This should get it blowing warm air but only if you have the temperature selector set high enough so it needs to heat the van up.
I think for gas you have to light the gas fire in which case you don't need the fan but if you do select gas slow or fast fan it will blow it through the ducts.
