I have a single axle but, because of it's length,I cant pitch on certain sites in the UK,(just been turned down at Sandford park in Dorset)if you go for a TA van,and your not experienced in reversing, consider one with a motor mover, unless your built like Arnie and can push it around, they are a godsend on smaller sites

Some sites wont have european vans(not just German)because of the door being on the opposite side to Brit vans, also they are a favourite abode for a certain type of caravanner,so everybody is treated the same to avoid legal problems, much the same as commercial vehicles(sign written or not)

My van is a euro, but it's UK spec with the door on the proper side,it's the only euro make that do so,as for the travelling community, they did go for the larger vans at one time(Dethleffs etc)but I've noticed more and more are using smaller UK vans nowadays

Hi there,
I'm a caravan virgin, please could an expert help x
My husband and I now at the stage where we will purchase a caravan very soon.
We would love to travel to France with it and most of uk
Is the rejection of twin axels on sites a myth?
I love the idea of extra space
Could someone kindly advise me and enlighten me
So much thanks in advance
We have a twin axle and have never had an issue booking onto any site in the UK. It is possible that there may be some sites that refuse a twin axle becasue of narrow roads.
On the continent I am told that if you phone a municipal site first, they no issue with twin axles.
In the main twin axles being refused on many sites is a myth! Buy a twin and enjoy it for more room and stability when towing!

Twin axle vans can be extremely heavy to maneuver by hand , so a "mover" may be required ,BUT a twin axle usually needs a 4 wheel drive mover , & these are heavy (takes a lot off your payload)& expensive (takes lot off your wallet)
single axle vans are easier to maneuver & a mover costs a lot less

No price difference with Eurotunnel regarding caravan length.

We have had a twin axle for 8 years (a Sterling Searcher 1900kg MTPLM)) and have toured UK, and been to France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Italy.
Never been turned away from a site.
In UK we use mainly CC sites, abroad we use the ACSI discount card as we usually travel in the low season.
I would recommend you fit a mover on any larger van, and a twin axle you will certainly not move by hand unless you have several helpers.
If you need to park a twin axle in a tight situation you will need a 4 wheel mover, but otherwise a 2 wheel one will do the job, but it must be one designed for a twin axle. We have a Truma TE which we find fine.
Sometimes you can increase the MTPLM on a van to give you extra payload to cover the mover etc.
We are towing with a Volvo XC90 SE D5 Auto.
