Hi all. I will shortly be looking to buy a caravan. Ideally 5 berth. Something hopefully newer than a 2000. Ive got 4 to 5k to play with. My only thing I will need is a bedroom area that shuts away from the rest of the caravan. What make/model would you all suggest?
So far I've got to say it's a how long is a piece of string question and most people will happily recommend a type they have had lovely memories with.
I'm currently liking the elddis abbey lunar Bailey and swift 5 berths
But I'm not an expert on caravans, I'm a complete newb x
All I can say is I don't think anything is the best and all some many will have problems depending on the build etc.
I've read here loads of people saying oh my van must have been built on a Friday as the quality of the make is usually outstanding - but have experienced problems with their upgrades
Honestly I think it's like a wedding dress or pet, you'll know when it feels like the right one
Lol I'm hoping it is for me. X x x x

Everyone will have a different opinion of what is the best make. What 1 person likes another might hate. Have you been to look at any caravans ? If not why not go to a local caravan sales and look at the different makes and layouts that are available. Once you have a better idea of what suits you best ask again what the thoughts are on the specific models you like as then you will get opinions from owners of these models
The first thing you should consider before the layout is the weight of the unit, assuming you have already done this then there is really little difference between them all as most regular vans are either from Explorer group or Swift group, so with spec like for like prices are about the same as is also the quality. May be a decision for the Mrs see which cushions she likes the best. However personally I prefer the Bailys they are an independent manufacturer they have been around for many years and offer value for money I have owned a few Baileys and never have I had a problem but there will be lots of members here say otherwise. Your best bet would be find one you like and that fits your pocket and that is within your tow limits, then get a mobile engineer to do a report on it this will obviously cost but will be worth it for peace of mind or you could easy spend your 5k and another 2 or 3 to have it fixed

never thought of a mobile engineer to check it over. Good shout. Is that what I would search for or are they called anything else. Thanks for all the advice
------------- February - Blakemere Touring Cheshire
April - Lakeland Haven
May - Sandimouth. Bude
August - Ninham Holidays. I.O.W
August - Windy Harbour. Blackpool
October - Callow tops. Ashbourne
there is an association of mobile engineers called MCEA which stands for mobile caravan engineers association if you google it you can find someone local to you or if you see something you like but its too far look for a guy near to there im not sure what the rate is but im sure its not a lot. But remember not all mobile engineers are part of mcea so internet search these too some dealers allow mobile engineers to advertise at their premises so your local dealer may be worth a look

As well is two words!
