We have managed to find a place in a gold cassoa site close to home for Little Gert (it helped that she was so tiny) - so relieved as she is a bugger to get in and out of the back garden and I know I wouldn't use her as much if we had to do that every time.

So she is going to her Summer home in a couple of weeks, so now the question is : what to leave in her whilst she is there in between trips away (which we intend to do atleast once a month when not on her big holidays).

Obviously not food! But what about stuff like toiletries, Duvets and Pillows (not the covers as they will be brought home for laundry and taken back with us next time). Do condiments such as salt, pepper etc., count as food?

Really Im just wondering what seasoned vanners leave and don't leave during the summer storage season as a rule to get an idea.

Thanks again

If you look in our van store cupboard just now you will find:
salt and pepper mill, paprika, dried parsley, Oxo, corned beef, baked beans, sweetcorn, mushy peas, honey, olive oil, balsamic and hot chocolate. Tea and coffee we bring back into the house to use as it is best to always have fresh.

Other stuff - Bedding and towels if we have only used for one or two nights, washing up liquid, kitchen wipes and wet wipes. My wash bag and contents. Bug spray. Hair drier, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, J clothes, bin liners. Flip flops and hiking boots.

Generally we can just grab a few items of clothing depending on weather and put in the van, transfer fridge items needed from home to van fridge, fill the wine/beer carrier and we are off.

Even considering putting some clothing in the van for an even quicker get away!

Brilliant Dutch - thats the kind of thing I was wondering about. The less stuff I have to bring from home the better. Do you store the bedding in those zip up airless bags or just leave them out in general?

In addition to the Dutchess list. Waterproof jackets, umbrella, map, chargers, first aid kit, undies and socks drawer kept stocked. Sachets of sauce mixes and of course a tin of spam!
We also have a little notebook so each time we stay at a site make a note of their phone number and postcode for sat nav, for next time.

Haha love the idea of the little notebook for campsites Fiznlil. Thats something I will copy. Good thought on first aid kit, umbrella and sachets of sauce mixes. We have huggins of those little bottles of shower cream from b & b's and hotels, so I'll whack those in there too x

We leave everything in apart from fresh food. We leave tins seasonings emergency rations etc. we also leave in a few emergency clothes warm bits towels bedding etc we only take the latter home as and when they need cleaning. At home I have a caravan big bag in our spare cupboard, so when those items are washed they go straight in it as do other items that need to g to the van. We can then just grab and go.

This means that when we go we just need food extra clothes etc.

Now in a motorhome

We have singles and I fit a quilt and pillow and night-ware in a top locker - one for each. Can't be bothered to keep stuffing into a bag - when making up the bed I can just pull the stuff from the locker above the bed and it takes just takes seconds - not much longer to stuff into a bag and I have done that and stored under seats but I am honing my skills at making bed prep and put away as hassle free as possible.

Dutchess, we have decided to go the single quilts idea too. Means that I can have a thin one, and him indoors can have a thick one (!). Going to shove them into the overhead lockers too, or under the bed. Thanks again for the idea. x

I keep the same items as most people have pointed out - I also keep a copy of my caravan insurance policy - hope I never need it but I know it's there just in case!
