Buyer beware when my wife and I attended the caravan show at the NEC we went with but one purpose to buy a inflatable awning. Competition was fierce but our eye was caught by a Dorema FUTURA AIR 440.

So the salesman stated that the price would rise at 6pm that evening from £899 to £1284 so indeed a true saving to be had. So we paid our deposit and waited eagerly for its arrival. But then Dorema advertise the awning at £899 the same price so we didn't get a bargain that we had hoped for and more so could have chosen a different one if the quality was similar. So today I have taken time off work sorted childcare waiting for its delivery..didn't arrive!
Having spoken to the MD of Dorema he says they didn't intend to mislead and offered £50 reduction this has left me and the wife feeling disappointed with Dorema a company who is supposed to have a good reputation...never again!

SO THE ONLY THING DOREMA REALLY INFLATES IS IT RRP TO MISLEAD CUSTOMERS!

Sorry to hear this has happened, it sounds unusual for Dorema.

We bought one of the Air All Season awnings last year at a good price, and over a year later you still cant buy the awning for the price we paid so last year the offer was a genuine one.

I think their offer of £50 sounds fair, their awnings are very good do hopefully when it arrives all will be well.

A sad case, but to look on the bright side when it arrives you will have many years of enjoyment as Dorema are one of the better manufacturers, so Good Luck Pablo

You got more than the bargain you hoped for, you got it for £849. I'm somehow guessing you would not have bought the awning had it been priced at £1284 anyway & if you had been prepared to pay that price then you certainly have a bargain.

What you in fact have is the awning you wanted at £50 less than the price you were prepared to pay.

So what exactly is your complaint & why do you seek to discourage others from buying an awning that you obviously think is the bee's knees & good value?

Open sauce do you work for Dorema? Because you are missing the point altogether ...it is illegal to inflate the RRP of a product to gain sales and in my honest opinion this is what DOREMA. Did we bought it thinking yes that's a good discount and the quality is good however there were other makes at the show which were reduced to a level which may have been a better choice money wise. Yes Dorema have a great name but then on the other hand you pay for it, had it been listed correctly as a £899 awning in all honesty I would have gone for one of the other brands who were offering better deals. Any due to the fact it hasn't been delivered I will now cancel the order as other than £50 it's not much of a bargain...ps they have had our money since October last year!

One of the sad facts of today's sales and marketing strategies is to make the customer think s/he is getting a great 'deal'.
2 for 1, buy 2 and get 1 free, buy 1 and get the second at half price ... not to mention the so called reductions and sales offers ... many hike the price for a couple of months, then drop it to the level they had intended to sell at, but are then able to quote the massive discount.
Caveat emptor (Buyer beware) still rules.
You should pay the asking price because you think it is good/fair value for the product you are buying, not because it looks like a great deal. A great deal is only when you manage to purchase something at a lower cost than that at which it is on offer to most other people.
Your decision to buy the Dorema was, I hope, based on solid research as to the quality, suitability and cost of the item ... if you were influenced by any other factor (for instance, was the £1,284 price quoted anywhere else?), then you were mot thinking as an informed buyer should ... IMHO.
Be careful that you are not 'cutting off your nose to spite your face'. It could be that the £849 is, indeed, a bargain if you cannot buy it at that price anywhere else.

Called the 'drop close' in salesman speak, buy it now or the prices goes up & no it was not illegal if the salesman believed it to be true at the time & there was no deliberate attempt to mislead. The end part of your op could well be libelous, I suggest you edit it.

The point I am not missing is that you examine the goods & buy on quality at the price advertised. The goods remain the same whatever the price. Let the goods sell themselves to you not the salesman.

We have purchased two awnings from Dorema at previous NEC caravan shows (different times) and got a 15% discount from their catalogue price - which always states a 30% discount!! I check out which awning I want beforehand and then see what price they are going for on the Internet then I know if I'm getting a bargain or not.

Wow this has started a debate hasn't it? So the facts we looked at all the awnings, the fact is that the company have displayed a RRP of £1248 the salesman for the company has stated that it is a FACT that as of 6pm that evening youwil not get it for that price anywhere (£899)

So the company is represented by their salesman and therefore as their represensitive he would be privi to correct information of pricing.
I put it to you either way the sales pitch was wrong!

I still have the flyer with the prices on if you want to query it further...liability to false claim only if the statement is an untrue statement I have it in full colour.

As per previous post that is what we have done and therefore would have had the information to hand but the FUTURA awning was a brand new design.

In closing speaking to the dealer this morning he admitted that the sales pitch was out of order!,

I thought I had reasonable knowledge of Contract Regulations and would be pleased if you could point out to me when the regulations stated it is illegal to inflate the price? Thanks.
BTW I think you got it at a good price from a reputable company!

RRPs, sale price, last one in the shop, BOGOF, sale ends Sunday - Buyer Beware!

Seriously, none of this matters a jot. You bought an awning for £900 and you were happy with it. You should have stopped there. When you later complained you got a further £50 off.

My advice is, do a comparison search before you buy: once you've parted with your readies, stop searching - you'll only be disappointed, someone else is always £50 cheaper.

If that seller had said to me, 'the price goes up after 6pm'...

First, WHY!!!????

Then he would have got an earful of 'Robbing / rip off / scare you into buying now' (or similar) abuse off me!

Thought you got better 'deals' at shows like this...???
