Understood price for these was set by Calor so how come my 3 local dealers all have differing prices

The price for the initial bottle hire is set by Calor, the price of the gas is not & can vary between suppliers.

Last time we refilled we paid £28. The normal propane was £26. Obviously more expensive in the South. Go Outdoors are a lot cheaper but catching one in stock is very hard!

There was a £6 difference for Calor Lite cylinders from two caravanning outlets in my region which is a quarter of a bottle more expensive.

Surely since these are filled by Calor the cost of gas should always be the same.
Go Outdoors price is quoted at £20.92 but means around trip of 40 miles to collect so not worthwhile. Interestingly they quote a RRP of £23.25 which is what I paid

Paid £22.?? last weekend from our local camping place (down South).

Thinking of going to France with just one bottle and buying a bottle over there, will need to look into the correct connector though.

Butagaz LeCube 6kg or Viseo 10kg butane bottles both use 27mm clip connector which you can buy here as it's same as the BP gas bottle. About 27€ for bottle cost & bottle exchange for LeCube is 17€. You can also get LeCube propane which uses same connector.

Someone once questioned the price of Calor Lite refills on Club sites and one explanation was that they were charged for delivery which they added onto the normal price otherwise they would make no profit on exchanging cylinders. This could be the same if the outlet is not a main dealer?

The price of bottled gas is no different to the price of diesel, it varies between retailers usually according to location even if delivered from the same wholesale depot.

Captive market, be it motorway services for diesel or campsite shop for gas will tend to be expensive. In large towns with more competition it will tend to be cheaper.

How about the difference in price of a 13kg and 6kg calor propane bottles. Just been mentioned in Practical Caravan forum. The 6Kg is expensive for the volume of gas you get but I cannot fit the 13kg bottles in my gas locker.

Lpg is a by product of oil refining so is cost neutral. The cost is all in the gas storage & filling/transport of the bottles which is why the cost of small bottle refills seem high compared with the larger bottles. You are not paying for extra gas with a larger bottle only the extra cost of handling.

We paid £28.95 last month for a refill at a caravan accessory shop in Malvern. Total rip off as dealer could have done it for us for £23.99!
We do have a Safeill refillable bottle as the Calorlite is supposed to be a back up, but will now buy the small refillable Safefill as a back up.
