Hi, my new 2nd hand car has both N and S sockets so i opened the N plug on the caravan and found 4 further wires that were not connected, they are cut back and taped up, these are obviously my supplementary power wires. They are coloured black/white, brown/red, grey and brown. What i was wondering is, can i wire these into a separate S socket, the caravan doesn't have a leisure battery ( I plan to get one fitted in time ) Would appreciate any advice, thanks

They are not standard wiring colours, you need to find out where they go before you go any further.

What caravan & what year, is it an older foreign built caravan? It sounds like it originally had a 13pin plug which has a 13 or 12 core cable & a 7pin plug has been wired in, in place of the 13pin. Current colours of your extra wires should be orange, grey, white/black white/red but older cables have had different colour, with only 12core I think.

13pin plugs have only been fitted to UK built caravans since 2009 but to foreign caravans for much longer & wiring colours varied.

To answer your question. It would be easier just to wire a 13pin plug to your caravan & either use an adaptor for your car or better still change the 12n/12s for 13pin socket.

If you want twin cable 12n/12s setup on caravan you would have to completely remove existing cable & connect up 2 cables in it's place so much easier to fit 13pin plug to existing cable.

Having said that I seem to recall there were problems with fridge wire too thin causing melted plugs/sockets on older 12core cable so it may well be a good idea to fit completely new cable to caravan either 13core or 2x7core if you wish to power fridge & battery.
