Please can anyone give me some advise, my husband and I bought our first caravan last year lunar solar 505 1998. We purchased a kampa rally porch awning which leaked from first time we had rain, after kampa trying to reseal it several times we got a refund and have bought a Dorema Octavia (steel piled) for our newly got seasonal pitch. We also bought storm straps and poles from the dealers. We put this awning up yesterday and on the last hurdle (attaching storm straps to side clips already on the awning ) my husbands side pulled quite tight resulting in the top corner of the awning where there is a metal eyelet where corner pole pokes into as now a small tear. As you can imagine we are upset as £1400 we did not expect this. My side did not do it but my storm strap is slack as I'm now scared to tighten it incase the same happens. Should we take pictures and send to dealer ? Will we get the blame ? Should we leave it a couple of weeks and then say we've noticed this ???. It does say they come with a 2 year warranty but will it be user error ? My husband screamed that a storm strap needs tension and it does say it on the box. Please anyone have advise ?
If it was me i would phone them stating that you followed per instructions on the box.You have been caravaning for years (whos to know)and this is the first time anything like this has ever happened to you.You were so proud when you saw it up and then this happened.
Ok you may have told a couple of porkies but nothing ventured nothing gained

I would take some photos, show them to the dealer soonest & go from there. You will have to hope dealer takes your side if you don't have any way of proving this was not user abuse or storm damage which is always the problem when trying to make warranty claims on awnings & tents.
From what you describe it's possible the eyelet was badly fitted, ie a manufacturing fault & hopefully this will be obvious on examination. A reasonable outcome will be that you are offered a prompt foc repair.
Yes thank you for advise. Mark at the dealership is going to think we are a right pair of plonkers !!! It's only the size of a ten pence but suppose it will get bigger with time !!!
Dorema are normally quite good at sorting out problems however you need to approach the supplier first as your contract is with the supplier. If the awning is under 30 days old you cna return it for a full refund anyway.
Doesn't seem like you are having much luck with awnings!
