Just watching the second episode of Caravanner of the Year 2016 on BBC2,having watched the first episode earlier on Catch-up.
I'm a bit stunned...is this the creme de la creme of caravanning? The Caravan Club chairman demonstrated how to tear the back off a caravan. The candidates - as well as the judges - are...unusual.
I'm watching it and wondering why 'caravanner of the year' is playing a motor home off against caravans. The clue is in the title - caravan. Most people can manage to navigate a Transit...
The motorhome judge is so biased too...

What an absolute joke! Where did they get these people from? I'm really annoyed that they portray caravanners, badly IMO. They are supposed to be the cream of the crop, dear lord give me strength. You have Glenville (the judge) who bottomed out his caravan, the motorhome expert who doesn't know the width of his motorhome, then you have the cuddly toy collectors (the eventual winners) who made my skin crawl, add into the mix the motorhome 'finger on the map' couple who shouldn't have even been in a competition called 'Caravanner of the Year', It was farcical! And what was stalker and his mother doing creeping around the campsite watching on with eager anticipation that someone might drop out - he wanted it bad, real bad. Shockingly bad representation of caravanners IMO!
We howled.well we all know who to avoid if we see them on a site.not that we go on cc sites
And if my hubby calls me sausage on more time I'm gonna hit with me furry snake.
I had a think after watching it last week and then reading the posts on here. I really do think it was tongue in cheeck. Even the narration makes me think that. Last night It it with a different attitude and rather enjoyed it. It made me smile.
Cringing from beginning to end.
Amateur presenters trying to emulate professionals, what do they think of themselves now they have watched the programmes!
The final announcement of the winners..................the pause went on and on, gripping ? NO - The build up and suspense was squirmingly embarrassing.
Put my head in my hands with shame and embarrassment!
This was the first year the CC had run the competition, will it be the last?

Non-caravanners here & we watched it as a family last night. He laughed both at & with most of those involved. Some enjoyable cringing too.
It has very little coverage on the club website outside of a press release & forum comments. Just a publicity exercise? Have the rounds for 2017 been announced? Not that I can see.
It's the UK - we have more than our fair share of eccentrics! Most are harmless.
As an outsider (whose perception is what seems to be worrying members) I don't think this has tarnished the reputation of the club or caravanning in general.
Glenville seems to come across as a decent bloke actually & has probably done more good than harm.
Imagine if all the contestant had been 'normal' members & the tasks & judging more serious. Dull Dull Dull.
I think some of the feedback from within the club has the potential to do more harm than the program itself.
