I don't have a dog and have never had one, but I would say go for it. I can't have a dog because of work commitments but I enjoy seeing dogs on campsites and have never experienced any problems with anyone's dogs. Dogs bark yes, but then kids make noise too, babies cry etc you do have to live and let live when camping, and it's one of the joys of it. Your dogs are your family, take them and I'm sure it'll be fine 🐶🐶
Don't worry get your caravan and take the dogs. Take them for a early morning walk and watch the sun rise or enjoy a crisp frosty morning!
We lost the dogs due to old age and ill health just over 2 years ago, next week we are getting another dog from the Dogs Trust, a Lurcher. Caravanning without a dog is not the same!

We have the see through vision version which consists of 2 x 4 metre lengths and a gate. Worth every penny and still looks as good as new 5 years after purchase.
The space that will be available to you will vary depending on the site.
So we tend to wait until we are shown our pitch before we decide just how much space we can allow the 2 dogs.
With that in mind, we do take a variety of leads, windbreaks, etc.
We take our collie and spaniel with us when we go. The first time we took them they barked a bit, but after that (and all the extra walking etc. they get) they settled down and hardly bark at all now. Dogs will be dogs so don't worry about the barking.
We use two of the corkscrew type spikes but had to get heavy duty ones as the dogs kept pulling the lighter ones out when they came to investigate what we were doing! We attach a dog to each with a long enough lead that they can get to each other but not get tangled and then I put the water bowl at the middle point so they can both reach it.
Most sites allow up to two dogs kept on leads not longer than 2 meters, some of these charge extra per dog, some don,t. They also ask that they should be kept under control, be exercised off site and stipulate that they must not be left alone in caravans or awnings and any fouling must be cleaned up.
As responsible dog owners, I am sure that these guidelines will not impair the enjoyment of your caravanning.
My wife and I now take caravan holidays, (after many years of narrowboating) so that we can take our dog with us. We are fortunate that between exercise sessions our dog is content just to lie on the grass outside our awning (or inside if it is raining) and this has never caused a problem with site operators. It may well be worth your while to join either the Camping & Caravanning Club or the Caravan Club and use
their quieter 5 van sites.
Don,t hesitate, get your caravan and start enjoying your caravanning.
I like seeing dogs on site, but I hate being woken by inconsiderate owners walking their dogs and playing and shouting to them at 6am on the site.
Most campers with children on this forum are concerned their children might disturb other people when they wake early. Even the play areas are closed overnight so that the children don't disturb others before a reasonable hour. This doesn't stop parents quietly walking their children round the site to keep them occupied if they wake early. Maybe dog owners could follow the same guidelines.
I think OP shows great consideration for others and should have a great time all together in a van.
------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
love to take my dachshund she loves to bark but people love her she so cute take your dogs caravanning most are better behaved than some children I think its more relaxing when u got your dog with you
Go a get your Van, do not let having a dog put you off,
we have had a Van & Dog since 1975,
the problem we have is those people who DO NOT clean up their dogs mess & those who think its their right to ignore the site rules & DO Not keep their dogs on a lead on sites & there is a lot who ignore this,
we tie our dalmatian up using a spike with a lead attached, although, as she's growing, I suspect the spike might not hold her anymore.
We visit a 5 a side site at the Gower frequently, where friendly dogs are encouraged to be dogs and interact with each other....makes for a very tired pupppy at the end of the day
This was on her first trip out in the caravan at 14 weeks old we're off to France in the summer :D
------------- Doing whatever the rice krispies tell me to.
We have our lab in a 2 man pop up tent inside the awing or outside the awning depending on temperature. She is good and rarely barks only if someone comes to the van really.
The tent works quite well as we zip her in at night so she can not see too much to disturb her. Still use the corkscrew in the ground like others to through tent floor and then her bed inside she is happy.
During the day on extended lead to roam the pitch area and off on walks so enjoy most campers are very accommodating !
We started caravanning because of the dogs, got fed up after Travel Lodge started charging for dogs.Use a heavy duty tent peg with chains attached for securing them. Yes they can bark, but kids can scream and bang footballs about.
I do get annoyed when other dog owners ignore the rules about dogs being on leads, and don't pick up ( also when your pitch has the fag ends from the last occupant).
So- get a van, plenty of throws and towels and enjoy.
We are also new to caravans and have been out twice both times taking our large male border collie. He barks when people pass our house but has never barked when in the caravan. We have him on a very long lead and have a stake. We are getting an awning for extra space for us all as last trip was a wet one and all of us in the caravan was testing!!
I loop 2 15 foot leads from ebay around the back doorside leg of the caravan and they wander in and out as they please , never had a problem ,no manic barking only kisses and cuddles from passers by
