I'm looking to travel on the 24th July and wanted advise. Thinking of setting off from Altrincham at say 6pm Saturday evening and sleeping in the Bailey ranger caravan overnight somewhere. . Could I park up at the services?? Ant tips?
You can park overnight at any motorway services but charge is around £20. Should be plenty of room Saturday night as less trucks will be parked at weekend.

I do a similar trip every year, starting point Halifax. I travel until I get on the A30 then stop for a sleep on one of many the layby. There are many of these that are set back from the road, I generally pass three before I find an empty one, but that's also about three am. I set off later than you. When we are rested we have a small breakfast in the 'van then travel on to the'new services for a freshen up. Find this more cost effective. just thought i'd post this option. where are you staying in st ives?
I've done this run loads of times in deferent formats, the one that works best for me is to set of at 6pm stop at the gordino services for a stretch and brew, then straight on to cornwall from there, pull up at the camp site cat around 1am wind the steadies down and go to bed, nightmare journey done, We usually do this on a Friday night though.
only ever parked in a layby once found that the truck drivers drove past all night beeping there horns because i'd nicked there sleeping place......never again
