We have just changed our seasonal pitch. Our caravan is very large and at our last pitch it was heated easily by our alde heating set on the 2kw setting - we also had a small fan heater in the awning.
At our new site we can only use the alde on 1kw otherwise the electric trips. I'm not convinced it will be sufficient in winter as I am a cold person. I've told hubby we may have to use the gas (he's not best pleased with that).
My question is how to heat the awning. We can use the small fan heater on the half setting but it's not making a great difference. So I think we need a new heater out there that has the best output for the low wattage. Does anyone have a recommendation please. Thanks.
Thats all the heat you will get out of a 500 watt heater, no matter what (watt?) manufacturer or configuration.
If the awning gets cold I either put a jumper/jacket on or go inside as I wouldn`t expect a site hook-up to have the power to warm the northern hemisphere.
Thanks for your replies and whilst I appreciate what you are saying the result isn't the same. We used to have the same wattage oil radiator as the fan heater and the awning was far warmer (or felt it anyway) with the fan. Hence the question.

Same here. JMHO, but why sit in a cold awning in the winter, or try to heat it up, when you can sit inside a warm caravan?
I have my van on 1kw, I have a 9 fin oil rad on full, and another heater on half,If I use the kettle i turn the water heater off in the van in case it comes on, then turn it back on when i have used the kettle,I have no probs.
And its not a small awning. at the mo 21c.For got to mention. I have the tv on 40" and sky box and fridge freezer in the annex on as well.

Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
We had the 400w and it was plenty. The beauty of radiant heat is that it heats you and not all the air in your draughty awning. The sun is radiant heat. Those quest heaters have a trip switch which instantly switches them off if they are lifted or fall over so quite safe.
Sadly I think the heat pump is out of my budget....would be nice though as well for the one hot day we get a year
In answer to the question why use the awning if it is cold, hubby and dogs sleep in it. Hubby would rather have a tent than a caravan but I won't tent anymore so that's the compromise.
Why not use a gas heater in the awning as no danger of poisoning as too many escape holes. This is what we did as fan heaters were banned in the awning on the site we used.
