Hi there guys, I am a new member with a big problem. I recently aquired an Eriba Duo 1993 caravan with Alko type 131R chassis as used on most 80/90 Eribas. The over run draw bar is seized. I have removed the damper but the shaft will not move even when hammered. I have tried WD40 and grease to no avail. Any ideas ???
Regards Steve
I'm thinking this is like my B1000 trailer chassis, which is tubular chassis and the draw bar with bushes are a removable subassembly held in with a number of bolts top and bottom.
With the subassembly removed, it can be dismantled in a hydraulic press if seized. Hammering is likely to just inflict more damage.
I had to deal with a bent draw bar shaft and it took about 20 tons of force to get it apart. Not saying yours is as bad, but similar problem.

When we bought our 1997 caravan, we had it checked over by a proper caravan engineer.
Although it needed the tyres replaced asap, the only thing that made the van un-towable in its present state was a gubbed hitch damper.
He took off the offending item, got a matching one and replaced it so that we could tow our van home.
For 33 quid inc cost of the damper and the fitting of it, it was a lot better than fiddling about trying to repair the old one.
