Before we go and make an expensive mistake I am hoping for some help.
We have a Swift Charisma 230, 2005 year and the size I have found for this van seems to be 888 or 900cm when looking on the web for awning sizes. Though I think 900 cm seems more popular and that's what Swift says.
The question is that awnings as far as I can see kinda go from 825 to 900cm or 900 to 925 cm or somewhat along those lines. Which size should we go for? We are going for the cheaper end of the market as we hope to move up to a bigger van when Im not a slave to the work market in about 2 years time... bed making in a 2 berth is not my favourite thing.
The longer one would be my choice, If you end up on a sloping pitch and the near side of the caravan is higher off the ground the longer one would fit better.
If you buy a awning which is too big for the van you will not be able to get it taunt enough to shed roof water.
You will get a bulge hanging down in side the awning and the canvas will be stretched and will not go back to normal.
For your own peace of mind get a length of heavy cord or string and feed it though awning rail to touch the ground both ends of the van with out slack mark with felt pen then lay out while holding straight and measure that's the size of awning you need.
Then measure thought centre of wheel to centre of slit in awning rail from ground this will give you height required.
Then look at awnings for sale and pick nearest to you measurements through rail most awning sizes got up in 25 cms incliments.and not all awning makers have same measurements for sizes.
Like clothes you get uk, Europe and USA sizes +Chinese as most awnings are made in China nowadays
A size 19 Isabella is only 18 in Dorema sizes never take a salesman size as gosple his only interest is to sell you a awning regardless.
If you buy new and open it they will not exchange for right size.
Caught once but never again, if I measure and get it wrong my fault.
Go porch awning and then it will do this van and your next as well. Measure the straight line from front of front window to back of back window. Thats the porch awning size you want.
------------- if your not living life on the edge your taking up tooo much room
Thank you all. We are going for a 2nd hand one as will be changing the van in 18 months or so to a bigger one as this one was our trial one as such. This awning won't fit so will buy a new one then on our forever van when I retire.
Go for a large Porch Awning such as the Isabella Magnum, expensive, yes, but will last you many many years, you will not have to change or alter your awning every time you change the van, I wish I had listened to my advice as I would be a lot more in the bank !!
