Hi we've seen a caravan and we are hoping to buy it its second hand what paperwork should I be getting or asking for when buying it please also how do I know what year it is important know when he bought it but it was in the dealers yard for a long time ?
There is a database called CRIS which I beleive is run by insurers. Most vans are registered .There are usually stickers on the windows with the VIN number.
The documents will have date of manufacture.
The dealer should be aware of this.Have a word with them.

Like a car, a caravan should have a service record/handbook, plus ideally, receipts and paperwork.
The caravan will also have a CRIS number, etched on all windows and on paperwork: check this to see that the caravan is legit at http://www.cris.co.uk/
Additionally, an HPI check using the caravan's VIN plate (usually on the body close to the door) will disclose the age of the 'van and any outstanding finance.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I think Avondale were one of the first to register their caravans with it.
Mines a 1991 model and it has the Cris registration. Although i have the original bill of sale from the original owner who bought it in 1991, it shows up as a 1992 model.
Must find the paperwork and see if they ordered and paid for it in 1991 and took delivery in 1992?
