We used to go tenting until last year when we bought a folding camper, however due to hating having to put the folding camper up again at home to dry out we decided this year we would buy a caravan. When I was younger all my family holidays were in a caravan and I loved it.
So we are the proud owners of a 1994 Elddis Typhoon XL 4 berth with side dinette that converts into a bunk bed. My two girls 4 & 6 are so excited they wanted to sleep in it the night I brought it home. I used a damp meter when buying it and there is no damp. A couple of the window stays have broken but I have found a caravan breaker just 10 minutes from my house so these will be replaced soon. The floor has delaminated in the front seating area and near the oven but I have bought one of the one shot repair kits for this and it will be done thursday/friday our first trip away will be first weekend in June.
Congrats, why not book a pitch not far from home to try it out before you go away for a longer break in June. We have done that to make sure everything works.
Thanks for replying we are going within an hours drive from home. Unfortuneatly the first weekend is the first one where we dont have other commitments.

Can anyone tell me whether I need calor or propane gas for my elddis Typhoon XL or does it not matter I think it has a push on regulator with a guage fitted. Sorry for the newbie question
Calor sell both Propane (Red cylinder, needed for winter but also usable in summer) and Butane (Blue cylinder, only usable if ambient temperature is a few degrees above freezing).
Same colour coding with FloGas (most of the "other" UK brands).
Bottle-top regulator (or "pigtail" if bulkhead regulator were fitted to 'van) has to match type of cylinder so it's almost (!) impossible to use the wrong gas or pressure.

It's easy to post once you know how!!!!! I use photobucket as my web base. Lots of advice on the Feedback forum but here is what you need to know.
------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
Another reason other than price for going for an older van is the weight as I passed my driving test i had to keep the combined weight of car and van under 3500kg and as my car a ford mondeo has a kerb weight of 1450kg then the caravan weight of 1100kg falls within the 85% of kerb weight rule. Also the newer vans seem to weigh a lot more for the same amount of space etc
Enjoy your "new" caravan! We have an Elddis Tornado XL of 1988 vintage, and still going strong. A lot of these older Elddis vans are still in use, and we have found that ours has everything we want and everything that most brand-new vans have.
