Hi all, we are booked into a local(ish) site for the next two weekends, so we thought we'd ask about leaving the caravan on the pitch for the week in between.
We were told it would be £6 per night to leave the caravan unoccupied on the pitch - does this sound reasonable?
The site has only basic facilities (no shop/clubhouse etc) and is rarely fully booked even at weekends.
If I owned the site it would sound reasonable because what reason would I have to charge you less? The only reason I can come up with if is that another local site might be charging less. So shop around for a cheaper deal if you think the charge is unreasonable.

It's not that i think it's unreasonable, it's just something that we've never asked before on any site until now.
When we asked them (they don't own the site, just manage it) they seemed a bit unsure what they should be charging and I get the feeling that £6 may have just been the first figure that came into their heads.
I was hoping that maybe people had been in a similar situation at other sites then I could get a rough idea of the 'normal' rate.
Empty caravans on pitches is not something we like to encounter. Maybe the operator here is charging enough to offset driving like minded customers away from their site?
Recon it`s not a bad price. But can someone answer me this, Why is it not good for a site to have a van on not being used at that time? Its a Temp seasonal pitch,Theres loads of sites up & down the country with empty vans on them.
------------- Roughing it in style at Calloose caravan and camping holiday park nr St Ives.(seasonal pitch)
Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
It sounds very expensive to me, Waterfoot Park in the lakes only charge £3.50 and we are leaving the van for a month returning every weekend and they only charge £1 per night.
The site has a lot of seasonal pitches, quite a lot of which seem to be rarely occupied.
Our friends have a seasonal pitch on the site and they have had other friends that have been allowed to leave their van on-site midweek free of charge. The difference is that they just asked the manager on the Sunday they were due to leave - whereas I was asking a couple of weeks in advance.
I don't mind paying, but was curious to know what the going rate is.

Is it better/cheaper than lugging it back and forth?
It's a 54 mile round trip, all A roads so it's not going to cost all that much in extra fuel - just seems a shame to have to drag it home on Sunday then back on Friday.

I would forget that i had asked him, the saturday before you are leaving just approach him and say look I'm coming back next weekend any chance of leaving the van?
At £30 quid a week you would probably be cheaper going Seasonal.
I'd ask on the Saturday night/Sunday morning, that way they know what is available for the coming week. We left ours and we were charged a non EHU, grass pitch price for the nights we weren't there, £10/night; it should have been more as we were occupying a hard standing. This year we are doing seasonal.
Seasonal isn't cheap, we have to occupy our van for 50 nights to make it the same as paying per night, over 6 months that is going to be hard going for us as we work shifts and our main holiday is USA with family. We just like the convenience of arriving plug in and we are set to go. It means we can go up after a 7pm finish and still have two days away.
