Hi....
Been Looking at upgrading to The Bailey... Has anyone got one... Ive viewed the Van yesterday... The Layout would Suit us...
The Van Is absolutely Mint... Hardly been used... Full Service History...
The thing that worries me Slightly is No Front Locker....
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

We have a Pursuit 550-4 without the front locker and it doesn't present us with any problems. The gas locker takes 2 bottles and as the locker is close to the axle it does not affect the nose weight too much. The front side lockers are huge and we use them for bits that are needed quickly when setting up, so far we have not found the lack of a "conventional" front locker to be a problem.
One thing to be aware of is the weights and payload. Our Pursuit has lots of extras fitted but the advertised weights do not reflect the impact these extras have on the available payload, there is another thread on the forum about the Pursuit range which includes information on the weights etc.
We have one, and it doesn't affect us a jot. the front side lockers are fine as gas situated in another locker over the axle. Gives better noseweight. we love our Pursuit.
The only thing you can't get in there, but could possible have done in 'normal' front locker are your chairs or aqua roll. but we just put these on the floor in the van.
Ahh Sammymac...
thats good to know... I am going for a second veiwing tonight...Going to have a proper look round.. how have you found your Pursuit... and which model.do.you have..
thanks for the reply

Nice to here... I really like the Van.. but all the bad reviews are putting me off TBH... Its a bit worrying when you are paying all that cash out..

I know, I have read some bad reviews on Alutechs as a whole, with this roof seam leaking - Freeatlast has had many issues with their Pursuit unfortunately, and I feel bad for anyone with issues with their very expensive and cherished vans. But I can only speak for our experience as a young family and can say nothing against our van except the position of the loo roll holder requires us to dislocate our shoulders to use it.
We have a pursuit and love it! , as about the side locker for gas helps nose weight and is over axel so really good idea on that front. No issues on space we put our waste and Aqua roll in the shower at rear in an old blanket to keep them snug.
Over all it has all the kit we need, good heating system etc, kids love it as do me and the wife.
We had a 2014 Pursuit 430/4 with the sunroof. The 'ceiling' started to delaminate where it met the sunroof moulding and we could not get it fixed under warranty. The dealer we purchased it from (Ryedale of Shepshed) told us to take the van in on 1st March and leave it with them until they had time to do it! Bailey customer service gave us a list of centres authorised to carry out warranty work but not one of them would touch it - the general reply was either to busy or I won't touch that repair. So check it the ceiling carefully - it is a repairable problem covered by warranty, so if needs get it done before you buy. We eventually part ex our van at another Bailey dealer to be rid of the problem.

This was one of the problems we had with ours, in less than a year. Its not the ceiling delaminating, they are never laminated in the first place! This is true of all Alu-tec Bailey's.
Fortunately we bought ours from Ropers in Catterick and it was repaired under warranty. Ropers did an excellent job, so much so that it is now better than all the brand new vans, as they actually did laminate it. Still annoyed that it had to be done in the first place, and that it necessitated the whole of the inside furniture removing at the front. I got the impression that Ropers were well used to this problem.
Bailey's were down to their usual low standard, as 4 months after we got the van back, we were advised the final part for the repair had finally come into the workshop. Thankfully it was only a minor part.
Sorry I'm late to the discussion - just wanted to add reassurance for you.
We have had our 540-5 Pursuit for 2x years now which we bought from new in 2014. In fact its our first ever caravan! Since taking ownership, we have been to the very south of France twice plus numerous UK trips and even withstood the terror of Storm Katie in Cornwall this Easter with ease!
We like you were initially hesitant because of (some) peoples negative reviews - but we just put this down jealousy! It ticked ALL the boxes for us - which is what matters - and we cant believe what an incredible van this is for the money. Its been an absolute peach to own.
Ive never had a front locker - so guess i don't miss it..?! The Gas goes over the axle and theres room for two bottles. I normally have two in there - one smaller one for the Cadac. The front side lockers are extremely useful and offer great storage. We have one filled with our little-ones outdoors toys, games, buckets and spades etc.
Had a couple of minor teething issues when first picked the van up (which i was prepared for being a new van) and were all fixed by the dealer no problem.
Really looking forward to taking her back down to France again for the summer :)

We have a 550-4 too and love it. The only problem with not having a front locker is me, having a bad memory requiring walking around & around the caravan trying to remember where I put things , atleast I remember I got a caravan.
