Hi am new to caravaning I've got a Bailey ranger and want to know what runs off the mains electric and what runs of battery and how things work with the heating thanks for any help
What is powered by 12 volts are the water pump, the majority of lights (probably 2 on mains operation) and the toilet flush unless it is operated by manual pump.
It may help if you put the year of manufacture as people will probably be able to offer more advice.
If you are on electric hook up the mains supply will activate the onboard charger to keep the battery about 90% fully charged (so that the battery doesn't reach the gassing stage).

Make sure you keep the battery charged up at regular intervals because if it's not it will be useless in a few months and once discharged it's difficult to kick start them again.
The video below has useful information on vehicle and leisure batteries.
As well as what has been said above, the fan in the blown air heating works off of 12v and I think the ignition of the gas in the hot water tank is also 12v, but don't quote me on that as our gas water heater doesn't work and we only use it when on EHU.

Ignitor in fridge as well works of battery, otherwise you could not light it.
That's quite right as I accidentally missed that one out from my previous post. Also it needs to be switched on as well as one time I couldn't understand why I couldn't light my fridge on gas then after numerous attempts I realised I hadn't activated the 12 volt power at the rocker switch.
We had a 1999 ranger 510/4. the heating and hot water both worked on mains electric or gas. The heating had a control panel allowing
Elec slow fan 1kW
Gas slow fan
Elec fast fan 2kW
Gas fast fan
Cold air only.

If that is the 12v power rocker switch on the fridge, then that is only for 12v from the car's alternator when the car's engine is running and has nothing to do with any ignition of the gas in the fridge.

Yes I agree but no, I wasn't referring to the rocker switch for the fridge operation on 12 volt when hooked up to the towcar, I was referring to the 12 volt isolation switch which disconnects the 12 volt power from the caravan's leisure battery. If the isolation switch is not switched on then there will be no power to the igniter.
