Hello, we are about to use our van for the first time, the front gas locker can accept 2 x gas bottles either side of the metal cradle inside the locker, the think is both gas bottles sit at a slight angle forwards due to the shape of the underside of the front shelf below the front windows, my question is how do i secure the bottles for transit? We bought our van about a year ago and i did alot of work for damp at front, as previous owner had tried to cover up, there was no obvious gas bottle securing system in place, so i have nothing to refer too!
There should be two plastic support brackets and straps fitted at the rear of the front locker above the gas cylinder locations which the straps are wrapped around and tightened to secure each cylinder. The square bracket screws to the bulkhead then the curved brackets attach to the square one.
Tango55 yeah i looked at those but the tray the bottles sit in has an angle so the bottles sit with a slight tilt forward, and the distance between the bottles and the front wall that i would secure that style of bracket onto would be to large, i really need someone with a similar van to mine to tell me how the set up is in there van, mine is a 1992/93 abbey piper 15/5
Hi jesscar, thanks, i looked at these but was not sure if they would do, could i ask a favour, could you show me a photo of them in place in your van so i can see how they are fitted etc??
The straps weren't great, but nothing else fits better. I bought one of the other wider kind and still have it unused in the garage, the gas bottle is quite far from the bulkhead.
Jesscar yes the bottles are quite a bit from the bulk head, think i will just use bungee cords over the bottles secured at both ends on the cradle that the bottles sit in
My last three vans have had moulded plastic bases fixed to the floor of the locker the moulding is shaped to take bases of various bottles.
Then there was two moulded brackets fitted with webbing straps per bottle for securing a third and two thirds up the bottle these brackets are highly flexible to mould to the bottle diameter as seen in earlier post of leisureshopdirect.. The bulkhead at back of lockers is reenforcd to take spare wheel and provide strength to front end of van.
Some are plated with aluminium checkered plate others just have plastic sheeting backed by 1/2" plywood plus interior finish. And will take NO 8 wood screws of correct length for brackets an spacers takes bracket for holding spare wheel vertical too one side of locker.
