We went to where we store our van on a smallholding with security to fined the van had been moved. We spoke to owners who saw nothing, but it looks like it has been clamped on the front of the tow bar and dragged. We have 2 locks on it, a hitch and a wheel lock so I don't know why the b******s tried in the first place. It's a 10 year old van and only a 2 berth but I guess the first one you see when you drive in. We are not sure if any damage would have been done when try did this to the hitch. Not sure if the red bar is now loose where before we think it was stiff. Is that the stabiliser? We now have to get someone out to look at it as we have a 2week holiday to Cornwall in 2 weeks. Really pi**ed off with people who try to take what's not theirs?
Define "security". Sorry for your experience but it doesn't sound like there's much in the way of security. The thieves were probably hoping that a screeching getaway tow would break the wheel lock.

Yes we reported to police but they can't do anything. We mostly advised them in case there are others in the area and so they are aware.
Security, 2 bollards inside metal gate that can't be lifted up as has bolts, banks round perimeter. Next door to owners house.
Not ideal we know but where we live there is no caravan storage and you have to travel miles to try and find a site.
We arnt happy with it but not a lot else we can do.

Are you sure it was an attempt at theft?
Could it have been the site owners trying to move it for some reason?

That was my thoughts as well as thieves are normally attracted to caravans with a high value and usually looking for a particular brand for someone that they can sell on immediately.
We spoke to the owners but they said no. The only other thing was another person removed their van and pushed ours to the side. But that doesn't explain the deep gashes on the front of the towbar, the holes in the hitch cover and the tears really. Anyway we have a caravan engineer coming to look at it on Thursday to check it out. Now we have parked it nose in against the fence so more difficult to remove.
Thank you Kelper but yes we have contacted these some are no more and the others no vacancies.
Ah, now you've mentioned the holes in the wheel clamps it could be thieves, and by the sounds of it not very clever ones at that.
Someone that knows what they are doing can steal a caravan fairly easily, all the security features we have are to try and put of the "have a go" thieves. I've seen a video on Youtube showing a caravan being nicked in about five minutes, and it had all the security including a thick metal post in front of it.
