Hi everyone, I've come across many owners asking about caravan servicing from prices to asking other owners for a reputable engineer they could recommend.
Just out of interest if there was a website where caravan owners enter their vehicle details, postcode and requirements, and nearby engineers provide a job quote and any additional information required this would help? Owners then book in with their chosen engineer based on location, price and - most importantly - detailed feedback provided by the engineers previous customers.
Surely this would be something the whole caravan community would welcome with open arms??
Thank you richardandjo2010. I was thinking of a website in which caravan owners can post a job e.g. Full service on a single axle...which would then notify engineers within a 30mile radius for them to submit a quote. The owner can then review quotes and book with the engineer of their choose. This would surely get rid of the need to ring around all engineers for a quote?
I think finding the cheapest quote for a service is a flawed idea. Servicing needs to be driven up to best quality not driven down to lowest price. The sensible way of getting a service on one's caravan is to find somebody ok & stick with them.
Caravan service providers, workshop or mobile are generally well stacked back with work so are unlikely to be interested in submitting quotes. They don't need to compete on price, it's all about reputation.
Hi Opensauce, I appreciate your thoughts. I wasn't thinking necessarily on just the lowest prices, but making an informed decision based on other factors such as feedback from previous customers. In some cases price may play apart for some owners with a tighter budget, than say someone who has purchased a newer van. Food for thought. It would be great to hear from any engineers out there and get their thoughts.
I have used two individual local caravan service engineers over the past 4 years and both have gone into liquidation so any feedback would have been pointless anyway. The service engineer I used this year is a mobile engineer which his order books are full but I wouldn't leave any positive feedback because I would most likely have to wait longer than 3 months next to have my caravan serviced.
Surely though if you have a warranty running you can't just have any Tom, Dick or Harry doing the service they would have to be approved.
I would be sceptical putting all my details on a website saying I have a caravan and I Live here! sorry.
