One has to accept that modern cars are only going one way. Life would be so much easier if one could just remove everything emissions related from the engine & it would run so much better. How I've managed to survive 60 odd yrs in good health breathing in the pollution in the days of yore is a mystery to me.
I recall getting into my new top of range Scania truck in the early 80s & it seemed like the last word in hi tech with aircon & air suspension seat. Now it's a museum piece...
Thanks all, yes the service interval does change on the BMW depending on type of journeys, driving conditions // engine load etc.
That's s a good indicator Glencamping as we are also going down near St. Tropez.
I had Audi Q7 previously and that seemed to reduce mileage between services the more I towed with it.
And yes joeblog my BMW does have adblue so I found out on my way back from Snowdonia in October (Towing). It said about topping up the system on the information panel. If it gets too low it won't let the engine start. I had it topped up when I got home at my BMW garage and they told me , it can need topping between services if a lot of towing miles have been done, (we had taken it to Lake Garda in August).
All in all its a case of trying to keep within the servicing requirements so as not to invalidate the warranty.
Well I am just going to offer an opinion!
How have we made life so complicated that one has to try and plan journey distances etc just to use a car!
Shouldn't the vehicle just get one from A to B. It seems to me from these posts that the dearer the car, the more prestige the marque the more aggravation you have purchased.
As a cynic, I suspect it is to line the dealer's profit, if the cars are that well engineered surely a few miles either side should not make that much difference!
I totally agree Bramidian, but I fear all cars will go the same way with
cleaner air legislation . They keep changing the requirements what with DPF filters, catalytic converters etc.
Ad blue used to be and still is in trucks, but they have started introducing them in cars, before long I can see all diesels with them .
As far as planning the journey now, I agree it's a pain in the neck , problem is the cars computer system now decides hen it should be given an oil change and or service. If you go out if the prescribed allowance you have blown your warranty !
