Hey guys new here But not to towing.
I got my licence in 2000 so am subject to the 750kgs limit OR (and I am fully aware this is 100% legal after speaking to DSA, DVLA, TRAFFIC COPS AND B+E DRIVING INSTRUCTORS) Combination rules Example you car has a gross of 2515KG you can tow a 985KG gross trailer before needing a B+E (before anyone starts on this I have been pulled before and had the coppers Sargent come out and I was well with in the LAW)
Anyway I have an old CI caravan I only used it 2-3 times a year for overnight/weekend car shows at that time I had a Toyota Hilux so was legally able to tow the 755KG caravan however I now have a Pajero (Japanese shogun).
what I want to do Is get the caravans gross weight from 755KG to below 750kg say 745kg.
When I got it it was sold as a late 80s early 90s model so none of this MLP bla bla bla crap like on the new ones.
Please DON'T waste my time reading about this B+E I am not spending £500-600 (assuming I pass 1st time) and I don't need a massive 1500KG caravan for what I use it for.

You can make a new vin plate with the lower weight indicated. It is legal to do this yourself as there is no dvla registration of caravans/trailers. Obviously your payload will be reduced to the figure you indicate on plate.

Blank vin plates here for example. You will also need a set of number punches to finish plate.

A bit confused here? Is the gross weight you referring to is when the caravan is totally empty with no battery or anything inside it?
Also remember that part of the caravan's weight is transferred to the towball when towing and VOSA will never asak you to unhitch.
So if the caravan weighs 800kg on its own, when it is connected to the vehicle 50kg will be transferred onto the towball making the weight of the caravan when connected 750kg.

This is licence law the op refers to so you go on gross plated weight not actual weight on weighbridge. All he is doing is downplating caravan making combined MAM of outfit is under 3.5tonnes so does not require B+E licence to drive it.

All that matters for licence purposes is the weight indicated on caravan vin plate. You can up plate to max axle weight to increase payload if you like although this may require B+E to drive when only a B was previously required or you can downplate as op wishes to do but obviously if you downplate too much you may end up with insufficient payload.

Dump the oven, the fridge & the hob.

If you need to cook get a small camping gaz stove with small tin canister so junk the large gas bottle as well.

Quite a few kg's gone there.

The "VIN" or MTPLM plate on a caravan is not mandatory and there is no legislation to cover it unless the caravan chassis wsa built after Oct 2012. In this case the OP has stated that they do not have any such plate on the caravan.

The way the op is worded suggests max gross weight, ie MAM. As pointed out, no MOTs & no dvla registration of caravans in UK so there will be plenty of older caravans being towed on the road in various states of disrepair & many may have the vin plates missing of course.

What any enforcement stop would make of that I don't know but all caravans originally had a vin plate with max gross weight, ie MAM indicated so if op wants to make up a vin plate with the required weight on it to prove that he is legal to drive outfit on the licence he has he is free to do so. Then if he is pulled there is no argument.

It's amazing how a simple question that only needs a simple answer can be made so much of but that's forums for you. The op did not help his cause by posting mostly unnecessary stuff in his op but at least he now has the info he requires.
