The surrounds on our battery box ,gas cylinder box and all the others on the outside of the van have discoloured and gone grey with black mottled stains.
Anybody any ideas how to get them back clean again.

I don't think it will be a spoor the mottled black just in ground dirt as the finish of these surrounds are not supper smooth like a spray paint finish.
wash with a car shampoo or what ever you use in your washing machine. then use Autoglym for caravans this process should bring them back as good as new the Autoglym will give a shine and sealant. Oh forgot some elbow grease.

I would avoid using laundry washing powders and other products for household use and keep to automotive market products.
Try, a shampoo applied with a toothbrush but don't expect to get back to new again; UK will have taken its toll to some extent.
