Hi
l own a Elddis Super Cyclone twin axle van, every time when on site l have to jack up the van and align the wheel to accept the wheel clamp, which is a pain and annoying at times. l was wandering if l bought 2 traditional wheel clamps that are a lot easier to apply to the wheels would this invalidate my van insurance.
Your feedback would be most grateful. Tony

My insurance says "wheel clamp". Doesn't specify the make!

Hi
Have a look at Purple Lines web site. They do a wheel clamp that locates on the wheel bolts so there is no need to align the wheels to the receiver.

Had a look on youtube l'm impressed how long it takes to fit literally seconds. My wife will be giving our insures a call tomorrow (caravan Club insurance)about the Nemesis Ultra clamps. l find it difficult sometimes kneeling down after having a complete knee replacement last year, and anything that will help life a little bit easier would be better

we have a Nemesis ultra as well. It's fitted in 15 seconds.

Me too - knee replacement that is! It's worth spending some time getting the first fit correct - you have to insert shims to get a tight fit!

If I put my hand brake on one click it stops the van moving but I can still move the wheel simply by holding the wheel with both hands and turning it especially backwards.

Takes some believing but it is easy and makes it simple to line it up. Mind you, I only have to put one clamp on.

I think it's to do with how the overrun brake works which allows it to happen just as using the hand brake to stop it going backwards down a hill is not very good.

we are insured with the caravan club and only have to have one security device fitted which in our case is a hitchlock. If you are claiming a 10% discount for having alko locks fitted then you will lose that discount.

We had an Alko lock as part of the deal. Never used it as the Nemesis Ultra is so much easier.

all insurers differ. so you need to check what you have declared and what the fine print says...most will accept any type these days, but a few still specify "sold secure", but many insurers classify the alko separate to a std wheel clamp.

also a note to all, when you are doing quotes online, be aware that if you keep tweaking the quote using different details the insurer will know each quote you produce.
I have seen a few ombudsman cases recently where the customer was trying different things to get the quote down, and they ended up losing their case as they had not correctly insured their belongings. And the insurer could prove that the customer was trying to manipulate the system due to the number of varying quote and more specifically, what they were trying to alter.

We have a twin axle and bought a Lock n level Cheaper than buying two clamps. In addition as our insurance is with Towergate they are happy with one wheel lock and a clamp. We had the same aqrrangement with the CC.
