HI - hoping for some help/advice
I am just giving up my abbey excutive which is 30 years old. I am planning to replace with a similar size 2 berth caravan but with a bit more life span. I have towed my abbey with my renault scenic , I started visitng local vans for sakle today and have come home to find that anything form mid 90 s and newer seem to be 30% heavier. I guess all the fittings and brass handlkes and posh ovens etc make it stronger but heavier.
CAn anybody please suggest a caravan that I can resesrch that i can still pull- ie un 700kg. I have a limited buget of well under a £1000, happy to have an older model and happy to do up as long as it is dry ...where do i start if all new ones are so heavy? confused.com !!!
Looks like the current van is only 12 foot long so will be light. I think in olden days many vans were probably heavier than the maker claimed as it was not a particularly important consideration back then. Also the vans nowadays have a lot more equipment in them.
The Freedom caravans are the only ones I can think of in that sort of weight.
Surely your Scenic must be able to tow more than 700kg. What model is it and have you any weight figures for it.
If the caravan is that long then it won't be legal to tow with an ordinary car. Are you sure that it's 30 ft long? If you give the exact model details of the car and caravan we might be able to check that they are a suitable match.
