Currently sat in van in the middle of Cornwall been here a 10 days after driving down from Yorkshire, had tyres changed before we set off down by company we bought van from (as part of 1yr warranty as they sold it with 5yr old tyres...tut tut)

Anyway last night all tucked up in bed heard an almighty hissing at first thought it was our air awning stumbling round half asleep discovered it was the tyre valve it has a dust cap on and when I loosened the cap it stopped!!!!! Started up again when I tightened cap so left it loose overnight, but now 7am and tossing and turning wondering what it could be? Got the big drive back up on Thursday so not wanting to take risks but any help offered would be appreciated

check that there is no small bit of debris in cap.recheck tyre pressure and correct if required and leave cap off for a while and recheck pressure, maybe valve core requires retightening up.

Is there any grit in the valve or cap Chris ?, could be pushing down on the top of the valve.
If you have a tyre cap with the groove in the top you can use that to tighten down the valve.
After getting the tyre back to correct pressure
put some soapy water (or spittle) on the valve ,if it is not bubbling up I would be inclined to leave the valve cap off.
Safe trip home.

i had a badly seated valve on the rim after having a new tyre fitted....had to take to a nearby fitter and have a new valve put in. took him 10 mins.

it could be that the inner part of the valve is lose as steve mentions, but you need a special tool to tighten it....are there any keen cyclists nearby as they may have the required tool.

is there any way you can take it off and visit a local tyre fitter. A couple of beer tokens might fix it.

Thanks guys had a better look in cold light of day and appears van had some tyre pressure valves on ( never heard of them before) set to 65 psi they have a gauge green/yellow/red turns out the one that leaked last night the whole end blew!!!!!

Used foot pump to get somewhere near, no sign of any leak since last night found a halfords in st Austell 4 miles away not risking it going to get a decent pressure gauge and bog standard dust caps, can only seem to see these ones on eBay!!!!!!!

Fingers crossed nothing major

you can use a pair of tweezers or long nosed pliers to tighten valve inners. not unusual for them to be a bit loose especially with high pressures

Not sure if that pic has worked but these are the caps in question then one with 26 on the top however on my leaky one the 26 part is completely missing, mine said 65

Should have paid more attention when tyres were changed I guess but not tempted to replace them with same
