Hi Ann the council should be able to help you, even if it is putting you in temporary accommodation until they find you somewhere have you registered on Gateway to Homechoice if not you need to do this ASAP. If you do go down the tourer route depending on you capital you maybe able to get help with pitch fees (housing benefit deal with this) What you need to ask yourself is would you be able to manage long term in a tourer, if you husband is in ill health would you be able to do all the jobs that need doing, is there a laundrette close by? Will you be able to cope in the winter? Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about your circumstances.
A growing trend around my area due to lack of affordable housing wether that be Council, HA or Private lettings, is that many people now have touring caravans on their driveways, where permitted, these are used by family members to live/sleep in.
I work locally a a taxi driver and know of at least 4 addresses where the van is used by a young family as full time residence on their parents property.
Is this a line you could perhaps follow up?

Social housing around here is virtually non existent, wifes sister had to move quickly and tried putting her name down at a housing association after the council said not a hope of finding a property quickly unless homeless and on the street and even then it maybe a temporary property.
The HA told her they open the lists for one or two days every 4 years. The list fills up so quickly they cannot open it for longer otherwise you would need to put your name down as baby and hope you get something before you retire.

If you move into a caravan, the council will not see you as homeless but in temporary accommodation.

I'm so sorry, your situation sounds horrid :(
Do any of your relatives have a driveway you can pitch on if you can't get assistance with your rent? You can get an adaptor for your electric hook up cable which turns it into a normal plug socket so at least you've got electricity.
Good luck.
