I have an ABI Manhattan with a maximum technical permissible weight of 1275 kg i replaced both tyres three years ago which have a load bearing of 650 KGS which to be honest seems very close to the limit for my liking.
I've recently been struggling to find any tyres that have a heavier load bearing for size 175x 13 it appears they're as rare as the proverbial rocking horse doodar which has got me thinking that maybe I might be better off changing the size of the wheels to make the purchase of tyres that bit easier.
Do any of you know if I could go to 175x14 tyres, the wheel arches look like there is enough clearance but I've not much experience with this sort of thing.
Ideally I'd like at least 700kg load bearing on each tyre which seem impossible to find for my current wheels.

Regards

Steve

You need 175/80X13C commercial van tyres. Here for example. Load rating 97 so 730kg per wheel, more than adequate.

My caravan is 1300 kgs. MTPLM which the steel rimed wheels are also 175 x 13 and have no difficulty in getting tyres. However, they are not available off the shelf so have to be ordered for the following day.
Regardiing changing the wheel size, there may look enough room inside the wheel arch but that's not taking into account the allowance for the bounce from the shock absorbers and they will no doubt make contact with 14 inch wheels fitted. This is likely to cause a blow out and that's why both your car and caravan insurance would be deemed void in the event of a claim especially if a third party was involved.
Stay within the law and buy the correct tyres for the van otherwise if 14 inch wheels are that much of a must then change your caravan.

Cheers for your help, I've found a few brands that appeal to me all with a load rating of 97, I must have been looking in the wrong categories rather than the commercial van tyre section. 👍👍

That explains the reason why you were struggling to find the tyres of the required rating you need. They need to be commercial tyres for carrying the extra weight as you only have two tyres and not 4 that's why twin axle caravans can have car tyres fitted merely because of this reason.
